I've always been a fan of Digital Performer's UI. I'm surprised that more Live users haven't considered DP a viable alternative.

Honestly it's a great DAW, I really think there are enough hidden gems in it to keep me happy for years etc. but there are what some would consider a few crippling caveats that modern DAWs have that keep the timid away. The main one is no way to split a single MIDI track between multiple VSTs for doing things like splitting a keyboard between say Absynth for bass and Zebra for the upper keys. <-- That one I assume at least by the next upgrade will be solved. It's there I think mostly because older users don't need to do that, and MOTU haven't bothered because of that.
The other is Logic, DP has IMO superior FX plug ins, but nothing like the shear amount of instrument plug ins bundled in Logic, and it costs twice as much at $400 VS $199. To MOTU's credit though it's always $199 to upgrade, which is also true of Logic, and way less than the cost to upgrade 8 Suite would be for me at $299!

In a parallel dimension I could probably be an FL junky. It has so many cool tools at it's disposal but the interface didn't jive with me when checking it out.

I used to use Orion for most of the time but it just wasn't cutting it anymore.

Don't agree with that, EVB3, EVD6 are both solid. ES2 isn't bad for a stock synth, and the EXS24 has massive amounts of libraries that do that format.
Plus Sculpture and the Drum machine are great.

Mostly Sculpture though, I wish it was an AU or VST, love misusing that modeling synth!

Digital Performer has no really useful synths built in though, imagine only ESP EFM1 and Simpler and that's about what you get. DP beats the crap out of Logic in terms of built in FX and tools though, there's no doubt. Some seriously professional tools like a dynamics EQ and phase correcting plug ins etc.
