It's bloody fiddly to set up and that's why it would be great to have such thing built right into live.
Are you using Jack or Soundflower?

I have the same problems with Soundflower.

I also found Jack to be bloody fiddly!

Why wouldn't you just finish a song in Live then import all tracks as audio in to Mixbus for the final mix?

I do this sometimes with DP as I like the automation etc. better in DP>

That's exactly what I do, mix in pro tools.

But wouldn't it be nice and disk saving to be able to finish a mix in live.

Slightly off topic, but no, in fact to me the there are all these glaring issues with live performance Live has that came in after v4 when people started demanding that Live be a full featured DAW.

As it stands one Live Set hardwires all controllers to certain functions.
So even the simplest of ideas, that your MIDI keyboard controller gets a new VSTi for every song in your set is a matter of opening and closing Live Sets.
This is the tip of the iceberg, but basically besides releasing a proprietary controller with Push, performance features for years now have been ignored in favor of recording studio features, and in that camp Live still has a long way to go to match Pro Tools, DP, Logic etc.

Unfortunately, I have to agree.

We performers can only hope that Ableton invigorates version 10 with innovative performance features.

Yeah, i had issues getting it set up in the past, think i'd rather just export the stems and mix in Mixbus, gotta check out 2.5; been waiting for a new version, hopefully they've addressed the stability issues. :)

mixbus 2.5 finally adds support for plugins with more than two inputs, at least on windows. I can finally use my NI compressors. I was a bit upset about this limitation as i am with the lack of support of mid controllers, but i paid 40 dollars for it so I can live with mixing entirely wih the mouse, because i love the sound if it, the builtin dynamic control (comp, levelung amp and limiter) and the tape saturation on busses and master just sounds great to my ears. I never had stability issues on my system.

I'm new to all this. I'm really liking Live. I've found the biggest thing I wish it had is a good editor, including such things as actual one-track cross fades. I can do a lot of editing in Live, but it falls down eventually.
So, in seeing this Mixbus thing, I checked it out, saw they had a $20 "no-brainer" deal and picked it up.

I've never used anything but Live (and Audacity, I guess).
The editing in Mixbus is quite good, including layers and crossfades.
I can't vouch for the sound. It sounds fine. But "way better". Probably not.

Its handling of VST works fine (no instruments, but that's a known) isn't as nice in terms of UI.

It works. I'll stick with Live except for editing waveforms. I could see my workflow changing now that I have another toy, though.

RSPE just announced a Mixbus special for $19.95 until the 15th.

So I bought a copy. Not because I'm not happy with Ableton, I'm just curious if Mixbus will change the overall sound of my mix in any major way.

I also feel pretty strongly about this.

Live used to be the "sequencing instrument" and I would like them to return to that way of thinking.

Update, now that I've messed around for a few days.
It is kind of cool (whether it's nice or just a cool feature depends on what you want to do) that you can route tracks back and forth between Live and Mixbus. The only limitation is that only Mixbus has access to the system playback device, so to eventually hear anything, it has to end up in Mixbus.
Doing so was easy - just start Mixbus, then Ableton. Then, in Mixbus, set it to manually configure input/outputs, and then start assigning them. Ableton shows up as a device.
Then, in Ableton, do what you normally do.

^Is that with the built in jack routing? Yeah 2.5 seems a lot more stable but i haven't tried loading any vst plugins yet. There's a cheat for mixbus if you have maschine, you can load it as an effect and load projects into it. Not sure if it works with the Reaktor effect unit or other plugins.
