There are the first 100 KB articles with NVIDIA in them.
I didn't say microsoft didn't have articles on this stuff... I said I'd go to the source. And I still see no real reason they'd need to. They have the market share so they can afford to have information on some of the hardware from the largest vendors. They probably also document info when they come across it from small hardware vendors as well. I still would and will never go to microsoft for a hardware issue, and don't know anyone in the IT industry that would. Maybe a paper MCSE would, though.
Now there are more then 1 hardware manufacturer, each with hundreds of
support issues relating to intergrating them with an OS, each article being
overseen by several highly paid engineers, and costing a pretty penny to
write, check and publish.

I'm sure Apple doesn't wanna open that tin of worms.
And neither would I. And I wouldn't feel a need to.
If you've never been to MS for a hardware issue, and work with servers,
then u've been lucky enough to work with HCL hardware. There are issues
out there that aren't even in the KB and take hours on the phone to figure
out.
Not lucky, I know my job, what hardware to use, and what hardware to stay away from. I also do alot of work with Linux, so I understand hardware better than some "sys admins" and am no half-time tech. I know electronics from the most basic level up, software design and testing and am now working alot on wireless WANs and IP phone systems.

I'd like an example of when I'd need to talk to MS about a hardware problem. It would have to be a problem in the HAL or something that where a driver couldn't be replaced for it to be a MS issue.

Hardware security.... relates to driver security not the actual hardware.
You mean stability? Or keeping a device from tromping over memory allocated to something else in the system? THAT might be a MS issue, although either side could fix a problem like that.
Simple fact is, apple has it real good with macs, they don't have to worry
bout any of this crap..... So why start just for some imaginary market......
This whole suggestion of them become a software company only is all far
fetched. They have it way too good how they are, no reason to mess it all up.
Well I agree with you mostly on that. That's why Apple hardware is so much more expensive. No competition forces to deal with. It's also why they don't have as much market share as they could.

Fortunately, I know enough about hardware, etc. for it not to be a big issue for me to play in the PC realm and work with cheaper systems. If I was ignorant of computers and just wanted something that was guaranteed to work together I might spend the extra $ just to keep from having a hassle.

Well in the mean time, one could always be daring and try this, if you were curious..

I find MacOSX's Finder very annoying! Missing out functionality as fundamental as Copying/Cutting and Pasting Files (there is no Paste in finder (WTF ???)) is really strange. I find its always necessary to have source and destination windows open so I can drag and drop files to copy them. This isn't necessary on Windows. I guess I just prefer the way how Explorer works but maybe that's due to familiarity.
Uhhhh, I 'copy / paste' files all the time in OSX Finder.
