I definitely see both sides here. YES fm7 can do some amazing shit, YES so can absynth - bot honestly, they only come to life once you've been working on the patch for at least 20 minutes.
To me, operator is all about the interface - and I suspect Robert Henke would say the same thing. And part of that interface is the tight integration with live, and especially with live5 - clip envs, device chains... all that. Since Op is so integrated into live now, why *should* we judge it for instance on the amount of operators? If you ever do a synth patch with 8 operators that rocks my world, I'd love to hear it!
I don't own operator - hell, I think it's too expensive! - but I do think the sound is awesome. It's the easiest fm synth I've ever programmed, and the ability to save clips with device chains in live5 blows NI envelopes out of the water!
It's weird, I used to be an absynth freak. Soo light on the cpu, and yet so deep. But honestly, I just can't be bothered anymore, the interface just doesn't cut it. It took NI a couple of years to come up with a decent way to scroll through the envelopes! Meanwhile I'm coming up with weird granular patches - for SIMPLER!
ehmm... apples and oranges, I guess.

It is tempting that's for sure.
It's sods law though, 2 days ago i had to shell out £200 on pest control, turns out we have (had) woodboring weevil in our lower floorboards, we're having a hot spell in the uk at the moment and these little beetles started coming up out of the carpet
Talk about a month for bug hunting eh
I don't even know if i'll be able to update until next payday let alone convince my girlfrind to 'let me

' get Operator too.
