Just want to chime in again on the part of a non-Korg-Kontrol owner.

Most of the votes on this thread are going to be from Kontrol owners. But I want to hear from others. I think a vote on here isn't just a vote for the Abes coding for Korg... these are votes for pro audio universality...

Who know's what sort of politics are behind this stuff. I'm sure Ableton wants what's best for Ableton, but also what's best for the industry + marketplace. Can Korg come up with a format that M-Audio could use with their controllers? Would Korg want that? Should I be wasting my time typing this?

Probably not. But at any rate, I cast a vote for universality and compatability.

Yes, please implement native mode, I'm picking up my MicroKontrol today (used for $160, sweet deal) and the thought of not having to jump around assigning things and just play music seems to be consistant with Live's purpose and goals as stated by Ableton.

i think logic 7.1 has support for native mode too, at least microkontrol + kontrol49 are listed under new supported control surfaces. i have v6 myself so can't try it out.

I don't think it would be proper Korg Native mode in Logic 7 ...

One easy way to tell is that on launching an application supporting Korg Native mode the microKONTROL's displays and drum pad indicator LEDs will behave totally differently ...

the host application will start writing text to the microKONTROL's displays on the fly and the microKONTROL will no longer allow use of its own internal scene memories since Korg Native mode dispenses with the need to use Scene memories.

Cheers

read this : http://www.propellerheads.se/products/r ... otesupport

all about ReMote technology. I think this is the best protocol yet and an open standard for any controller/software.

The korg, even though the micro has a bad keyboard, is so good for live use. It's just perfect for live with the pads and all. Live support for korg native mode would be really great. The mackie is more of a daw controller but the korg is for improvisation and stage. So a load yes from me

Totally agreed Raapie.
The ReMote is the best control surface integration I've seen to date ...

It's like they've carefully considered every supported device fully and asked themselves questions like "If I had a KONTROL49 connected how would I best like to see it work with Subtractor?" ...

This is first time I've ever considered a control surface to be less trouble than simply using the mouse ... no setup time !

Mackie Control is the start of even greater things for Live.

Euphonics E5 protocol next?
WK Audio ID Controller (lol) ?
Korg Native mode ?

Where do you draw the line !??

I'n the meantime I'm patiently waiting for next full integer release of Live for Korg Native mode ... if it happens before then that's a bonus !

yup, i know that much. from what i've heard, logic 7.1 might really well support korg native mode. as i said, i still have version 6 and haven't been able to try it but i know logic has "dynamic" control surface support. have you tried it yourself or are you just assuming it isn't native mode? or more like... "tell me why not?"

anyway, back on the subject. i think what we should do is consider which control surface protocols are available and which ones we would like to be implemented. mackie control universal is a very good start since it's supported by several devices from several manufacturers - like yamaha 01x, behringer bcr/bcf2k and of course the mackie units.

remote could indeed be a really good technology to have in live but i've no idea if propellerheads are licensing it to others or not. there seems to be no info about licensing for developers on their remote technology pages, unlike with rewire. also, i guess it could be really time-consuming to add it to live since it seems to have some kind of core control surface tech on its own already. who knows, but it does indeed look like a nifty piece of tech - from the description it just feels it's really specific to reason3 and i don't know how easily it would be adaptable to live.

which popular two way protocols are there that you people know of btw? i can't remember any other reasonably priced and sized controllers than the logic / mackie control (and the ones that can emulate either of them) and korg native series that accept feedback and dynamic controller alteration from host software. that's one reason why i'm all for korg native mode too, since MCU is already there.

of course it would be really nice to have some kind of more intelligent support for normal "static" midi controllers too but most of that you can do with a good template... things like "application taking control of the control surface" are more specific and usable for dynamic controllers that accept feedback IMO. that's another reason why i'd like to see korg native mode supported.

(the third reason i mentioned already - i own one  )

I always felt the pads to be useless. Well changed my mind, there is interesting adavantage over stand alone units. When you play percussion say timbales you can use pad and key for tremolos, rolls etc, it is even more interesting that each reacts slightly different, more natural. So it is easy you dont have to remap anything. For those unfamiliar with triggering percussion, banging the same key or pad is very "artificial" sounding I map on Akai or similar same sound to 2 pads.
Also the pads are OK for Conga, Tumbadoras, Batas for good mutilayered drums a bit unsensitive.
My change of opinion is due to the Latin perc CD that I got today, surprisingly good sounding triggered with the Korg pads.

Pads on the MiroKontrol are velocity sensitive and they get a lot better with use. For electronic drums I set them to fixed velocity anyways, so they perfectly suite my needs. Also, they're an absolute need for triggering clips and FX in a live situation... pads are so addictive!

Back on topic, Remote seems to be an open tecnology just as Rewire and I read in www.hispasonic.com (spanish site) the props will be releasing an SDK of Remote at the end of the summer.

Well, I don't care what's used in the end, I want Native Mode support in Live.

cheers

The length of this thread convinced me to order Kontrol 49, once having both will decide to keep one, the other or both. I hope it was really Roberts statement and they are ready to make something
