Peeddrroo, now i'm home with the monitors, i have to agree with Marco: the bass is very nice. Full and bouncy... my mistake, better have shut up...

Not sure if this is a good track (and too much limiting!), but at least i had a time limit, which saved me from thinking too much and helped me make quick decisions. The separate tracks provided by the band were very difficult to work with because i could hear a lot the other instruments (bass, shamisen, gamelan) sneaking in their mike (they recorded live). So i had to work a lot with the stereo mix and heavy duty brickwall filtering.But Ableton Live was the best companion for this.

I remember some time ago I heard the album of a French white guy called Thomas Sidibe. "Sidibe" of course isn't his real birth name. he just took this name from his Malian djembe teacher/spiritual father or smtg... Now he makes this postcard world music and sings like a black guy, songs about slavery and stuff.

I love world music, I love to absorb influences from other cultures, but never to the point where I will negate my own roots and therefore shit on my ancestors...

2 guys i used to like in the blur label of "world" made by "white guys" (besides JON HASSELL, one of the most fantastic musicians i ever heard, imho) : Steve Sheehan,
and Kenneth Newby. Anyone knows? Also, Glen Velez is an incredible percussionist
(btw, he used to play in the Steve Reich Ensemble). Those three guys are not doing "world" in the sense they don't use anyone else's sample (syrup world), but they rather use ethnic instruments and create their own world... Kenneth Newby has this album called "Sirens", and the 1st song is just mindblowing, i think...

A world music I thoroughly enjoy is Tabla Beat Science. Zakir Hussein, Karsh Kale, Midival Punditz, Bill Laswell, Gigi..... and others.
Their DVD Talamanam Sound Clash is worth getting....

Especially the second track, the electronics and vocal fx push the boudaries more, you've created a very fresh sound.

I'm going to the WOMAD festival (UK) next weekend and hearing your tracks reminded me of how much I'm looking forward to it, your group would go down perfectly on the "Village" stage.

Anybody with multicultural musical interests should check out this festival sometime - or listen to the coverage on the BBC Radio 3 web site.
