i'm with you Smutek and sweetjesus, I stopped 7 years ago but then started again because of something else I like to smoke and thought that mixing with tabacco was the only way. Eventually I was back on tabacco without realising. 3 years ago I stopped again tabacco and use a pipe for other stuff. Always thought tabacco was like alcohol-free beers. What's the point ?

Nice!
I am in the process of quitting too. Today will be my first full day without a cigarette.
I've come to realize that whether I smoke or not, the strong urge to smoke goes away after 5minutes or so. If I keep myself distracted while I really want to smoke, very soon I don't care about smoking so much anymore. And I keep thinking about how much better I will feel when the stress of quitting is past and my lungs are healing. Also, I learned the other day that
smoking greatly decreases bloodflow to the ole lovestick, which, even though I'm abstinent, is very motivating to quit smoking!
For me the key is to keep my desire to quit at the forefront, and let it overpower the desire to smoke. And do something to fill the void left by smoking. Exercise is def a good way to go.
I once met this guy who had been smoking for 8 years and quit in the middle of the Vietnam War. He said its the best thing he's ever done for himself. That really put an end to my arguments about quitting during stressful times!
Smutek: Its great to hear a musician on the forum speaking well of his wife! Sounds like a positive realsionship!
Stay strong fellas! I'm with you as well!

2:30 P.M. here and so far so good. Smoke free.
I made real quick this to throw on my desktop of my at work machine, after I finish evcery little project i have a look at it:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v87/s ... -front.jpg
No real cravings. Although, I feel very out of body and my time perception seems to be off a bit. The trip to work, which is a 25 minute drive for me, seemed to take an hour.
The first hour at work was the worst, and after feeling like I had been here for 6 hours I realized I had only been here for about 45 minutes.
Time is not dragging so much now but still feeling a bit kooky and "out of body". I look forward to getting off in two and a half hours to go home and clean the cigarette ashes off of my desk, off of my powerbook, and all of my gear. That shit just goes everywhere.

Go Smutek and other quitters!
Maybe there is a subliminal message in there from Ableton... the software isn't called Live (rhymes with five), it's called Live (rhymes with give). They have control of your mind and they are trying to make you live longer so that you will be around for longer to buy Live 48 when it comes out...
But that's a good thing innit ?
Sounds like you're having some interesting experiences without the cigarettes - you should make some tunes about that out of body feeling you had...
And once you're over it all do some hardcore political rap tracks aimed at Philip Morris...
Michael Franti: "I don't smoke cos it's a form of slavery"
We're all crossing fingers for you quitters...

Smoked my last cig an hour before i got off work. I work at a gas station so the urge to buy another pack after I got off was real strong. It passed once I actually left the store. The drive home felt weird just like Smutek said. I just concentrated on the music in the cd player.
And now I shall indulge in a more expensive habit. BEER! Since I will get more oxygen in my system per breath, alcohol shall be more pleasent.

Great idea smutek. I quit 3 years ago. It's hard at first but it gets easier everyday. The best part is that the cravings completely vanish after a few months - it's like you never smoked in the first place. Keep that in mind when you're struggling. It's not always going to be tough. Once you make it to a certain point you won't even think about it anymore. This idea of a finite time period of struggle helped me greatly.
Also, in addition to all of the other benefits mentioned, as your sense of smell returns you won't believe how nasty smokers smell once they come back in from a smoke break! It's atleast twice as bad (maybe worse) than you believed it was when you smoked. You'll see. Good luck! And stick with it!.

So true... I feel like such a snob these days. Ten minutes in a cafe and feel like death rolled over. That's a big change from chainsmoking like it was a noble effort improve the immediate asthetic of my surroundings.
Sometimes when I want a cigarette these days, instead having one I find comfort in knowing that I no longer suffer from a disease that preyed on my once weaker mind. This new sensation gives me confidence to spend my money and freetime on other sadomasochistic tasks like trying to get Live and Logic to play nice.

Yeah, at home has been a little bit touger. I've been dicking around up here for about an hour and have reached for my non-existant smokes probably 5 or 6 times.
I have not been hit with any really overwhelming cravings, just this really wierd feeling, sitting here racking my head because I am feeling like I am missing something, then I realize what it is when I go to reach for one......
But still hanging strong here. Going to throw on the ipod and take the dogs for a walk then come back and get into that cleaning i was talking about earlier. Then either do some reading or make some sounds.
Man, all of the positive responses have been just awesome.

Sorry
It just sounded like such a weird way to quit smoking. Not that I could see why anyone would want to start. I mean not tobacco
