What compressor and parametric eq are you using?
UAD?
I'm thinkin of getting the UAD card, or Izotope Ozone 3,
My only q's about UAD is if it gels well with Live 5.02?? And does the card use a lot of cpu?
Lemme know about pro's and cons of the UAD, please
The cash isn't a biggie, so I just want to know the UAD is gonna do what i want before forkin out the cash...
Thanx

The card uses 0 CPU, all the plugs run off the card itself allowing your CPU to attend to other buisness freeing it up . Thats the pro. There is no con. And it seems to work fine with Ableton.

The Ozone is a mastering comp and not really meant to be used on single channels. And it's a total CPU drain big time. There really isn't a "Great" mastering plug out there imo and even if I we're putting a record out on a budget, I'd save up $80 and go master a 12" in a local studio with credibility and run your songs through some real gear for an hour to get a better product.

Hi, me again. Edited my last post here and saw your new ones.
At all Jackal seems to be right: If you aren't experienced in mastering it is always better to send your tracks to someone who knows how to master. I do not know if there aren't any great Masterplugs, but I think you can get professional results with masterplugs as well, when you know how to use them!
Wait, please I have one question: This Metric Halo strip is availlable with the MH Hardware right? And to you it sounds better than the UAD? I heard it is good, but better than this UAD stuff? Can't believe! For Mac, the best thing I've heard is the Metric Halo Channel strip.
For PC, gotta hand it to the UAD stuff. Otherwise, the usual suspects already mentioned here.
To me the UAD is superior when it comes to Plug In quality. I do not know if Ozone is as good as the UADs when it comes to soundquality! I heard people use Ozone on single tracks and get fine results, but I havn't tried the plug on anything. At all Izotope develops good algorithms, so Ozone should sound nice! Perhaps you should give PSPs Vintage Warmer or one of the new Sonalksis CQ1 or DQ1 a try! They seem to offer high quality! The Ozone is a mastering comp and not really meant to be used on single channels. And it's a total CPU drain big time. Yeah! Used 'em at a studio few days back and the credit card is desperately trying to escape my walletAdamJay wrote: the Sonalksis plugs are totally rocking my world right now.
Still love the freeware Posihfopit EQ, despite being almost unprounouncable, it's a really good 4 mode, up to 8 band EQ. Mousewheel support and the ability to skin it so it looks like a part of Live is pretty handy too....
i just saw the izotope at a friend of mine....he used it in the masterchannel....for friendly limiting....and to me it sounded quit open and wide with this plug...of course....a finished track is going to a promasteringstudio and cuttingstudio before it will goes it´s further way....

If you've got the budget then yeah - it's definitely the way to go.RobStrobe wrote:....a finished track is going to a promasteringstudio and cuttingstudio before it will goes it´s further way....
However I've done a few tracks recently in Live where as a interesting challenge I just used freeware to see if it could be done from start to finish and, barring a few workarounds, it can. Said tracks have been picked up by very well known name and should be appearing early next year - not that it's a big f'kin deal or I'm a cooler person for it - but merely that the whole process of mixing/mastering tracks can be achieved in Live given tools that are publicly available and free.
All of which, after spending thousands on studio time/cutting time down the years is great

I know that plugs aren't a must, and expensive Highend Audio Outboard isn't a must, too. But both things can help you to get better results much easier and faster than wiithout them!

Yes you can develop a good sounding track without extras, but it depends on what you want to get! You will get a good soundquality from ableton with nothing else, but to me there are some things that can definitely improve your sound!I just used freeware to see if it could be done from start to finish and, barring a few workarounds, it can.
