We're ripples on the great sea. Slightly megalomanic ripples, too.
Ants build nests, humans build culture. To bigger entities, I'm sure it's much the same.

Isn't that a rather megalomanic human view on the way things work for other species?

I'm in Canada and I find that alot of parties I attend now have a very 'earthy' tone about them. Lots of outdoor parties, lots of hippies, fire-dancers and crazy painters and artists for 'atmosphere'. All very underground events, but they are popular enough to draw. The focus is almost always on the idea of comunity. Know Your Neighbor kinda stuff.
It's cool to be in a crowd of 1000 when everyone cares.
Is this the case across the ocean?
