To put that crashing thing into perspective, I have not had one crash using 5.0.1 fo djing. Have played out a couple of times too. No issues. I'm not saying people don't have problems just that I've not seen any yet (well one bug regarding the looping following where the braces are but nothing major...it might be fixed in 5.0.2)

Live Clips make it worth the update alone. True live on the fly editting at your finger tips. Great.
Robin,

THANK YOU. I think your comment finally pushed me over the edge, and I'm going to upgrade to 5.

Because if i want to use the same clip in multiple songs, I either have to save multiple wav files, or re-invent the wheel and set the cue points again.

Hi statikfire,
Em, if I get your meaning correctly, you wanna use the same track with different cue points? If you copy the clip into another slot and move the cue point you've got the result without saving multiple wav files - Live just sources the original file once and plays it back differently depending on your settings within each clip. Is that what you mean? :)

Good news is that L5 can do this, so deffo upgrade. Or another way of looking at it is... L4 can do this too, so don't bother upgrading...

Did I get your meaning right? :)

Ahfuckit, upgrade anyway. If you crash all over the place you can still use 4 !!! If you don't crash then you've got the dogs bollocks in music software. It's all good.
:)

- learn how to warp your tracks, you dont need autowarp if you know what you're doing

- you have mp3 support now. i totally dont see your point

- why do you need multiple sets for DJing?? this also makes no sense to me.

yes!

in L4, you could copy the clip down a slot, and move the in point to where you would want the next cue point. problem was, you couldnt access these from another set, without bouncing each, renaimg, etc...i giant pain.

so Live 5, u just drag the group over to browser and done.

this one thing makes it worth it. i completely understand, and you will love it.
thx

maybe you should get a DM2 controller and use their sweet software and perform with it. You won't even have to write songs, you could just hit buttons like a monkey and it will sound good. you could even buy a helper monkey to do it for you so you could focus on drinking, drugs, and chicks at the gigs. Mojo is a particulary helpful monkey...

Yeah, I've considered hiring an intern for warping tracks. But I don't drink much , no drugs, and I have a most wonderful lifemate.

But thanks for your suggestions!

i don't see how you can possibly compare mixmeister to ableton. ok, they did a good bpm detector, but that's it. the timestretching is horrific (try in on a track like Sandy B - Make The World Go Round and shudder at the result  ) and it's more for people who can't dj just to create a mix for thier own listening pleasure, not for serious djs.

For Real!? Granted, it is a kiddie toy, and I definitely bought mine used on the cheap on ebay, but mine has been "flawless" in terms of buttons always working, the crossfader and transformer buttons are still working as best as the DM2 can muster, even after thousands of presses/slides. Sorry to hear your buttons aren't so consistent. I love using the light up buttons--it would be cool if they turned on when they turn an effect on (midi note on), and off. But, if you use them to jump to various points on one parameter (say the slice rate of supatrigga), the ligths can be a useful indicator as to the current slice rate, since pressing another button make it light up and the last one go dark. Anyhow, the real power is in the amazing DM2midi software by PDoom--if only all midi controller implementation were this deep--Ableton..?

Ryan

P.S.--Ben, thanks again for sharing your blockspace app. with us pc Live users, still giggin' with that always on for idiotproofing at least part of my set.

Dm2 fookin' rules!!! I've just modded mine to look like a vestax samurai mixer - took that bad boy apart, sprayed the body silver, the 2 metal plates metalic ruby red, and all the buttons black. I also sprayed the metal ring around the joystic the metallic red colour. Came apart pretty easy - just a bit of fiddling with the adhesive in places and a couple of clips needed snapping then gluing back on. I left the CF silver and that looks smart.

I also did the button responsiveness mod - taking the screws from some old cassette tapes and screwing them into the push rods on the radial buttons. They work like a treat now - no miss hits at all. Still don't like the action on the crossfader - but the transformer buttons are quality!!!

Actually - I'm having a spot of bother with the DM2 at the moment. I've tried to set up a multi-event for setting start and end loop points. Press a button once to set the start point, once more to set the end point and once again to stop the looping and resume playback. It's not behaving as it should - any ideas???
