the great thing about the lemur is that after you cum all over it, you can clean it easily thanks to its wipe-clean surface.

So... it arrived yesterday and it's pretty damn sexy!

Gonna test drive it at a gig on Friday night. Just gonna do some relatively basic stuff with it on its first outing.

I will update you all when I've learnt the ropes a little bit more.

i've hear that someone has problems with higher latency using midi instead of osc.
Did you experienced this too?

I've got to say I've only had a few hours with it but I didn't notice a particularly long latency with MIDI. However, I did only have a brief play with firing clips etc from the lemur. I'd been playing mainly with tweaking continuous parameters where latency isn't such an isue.

My plan is to continue using my Control freak and Powermate for timing critical stuff and to use the lemur for playing with synth parameters/fx etc.

I will investigate further...

I bought one, got it Friday, and I'm considering returning it.

Especially for triggering clips, etc... I don't think the technology is ready for prime time.

It seems sluggish and unresponsive to me, though if you play with quantization, etc... it might not be as much of a problem.

Hmmm. Will definitely be checkin it for triggering clips etc tonight given those comments. I don't actually thing it'll be very useful to me for triggering clips etc though - I already have stuff that does that well.

Will also check using OSC as I did buy it to use with MAX/MSP rather than Ableton. Easy MIDI was just a nice extra.

I assume you' ve been playing with the attraction parameters etc? Those balls seem to be pretty speedy if needed.

Yeah, I cranked the physics way down to try to make it work for me, but I think the bottom line is that I like to "feel" what I'm playing on...

the thing can spit so much information, isnt it bound to lag on midi? doesnt midi have a finite amount of information it can output at one time?.......I would most likely only use it for the osc controls, for use with max and reaktor....and any other monster that accepts osc

By default, the way the Lemur translates its native OSC to MIDI is via the JazzEditor app, which is written in Java.

Java apps tend to be slightly slower than native stuff, and this (control latency) is an area in which milliseconds count.

An alternative might be to input the OSC into something like MAX, SuperCollider, or PD, and do the translation to MIDI there. I haven't tried it though.

yeah, the lag you're experiencing is most likely not because of the midi protocol - serious midi users steer clear of Java (*Spit!*)

Fortunately osc->midi conversion should be relatively easily set up in your max or whatever...

anyone try it with the osc yet?

tried it. maybe a smidge faster -- but the responsiveness of the unit in general is still not good compared to even a cheap MIDI keyboard...I think it's the lack of tactile response.
