well, i hate to be a dick, but in my opinion download is kinda lame. I did like the track "basemetal" from the single from eyes of stanley pain, but for the most part, i always found download to be 2nd rate.

now doubting thomas and tear garden were both spectacular SP side projects....

I think the first 2 download releases were pinaccle. Anything with Dwayne is pretty much amazing. Also I love Doubting Thomas.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the first two Download releases are "Charlies Family" and "The Furnace" right? All of em are great. But I think Furnace is the best.

Am I the only one here that actually enjoys "The Process"?

Nope!

The Process is my fave - it is complex/abstract like Last Rights but accesable like Rabies. My wife calls rabies the best Ministry album SP ever made :-)

I saw them for the Last Rights tour and then last year - I couldn't believe it was twelve years between....

- First 2 were Furnace + The Eyes of Stanley Pain with Microscopic and Charlie's Family in the mix as well for Dwayne releases.

I enjoy some of the process admittedly.

No man, I love that ablum too. the lot of it!

Also, leisuremuffin talked of The Tear Garden which also is absolutely great. "You and me and rainbows" is just too good to be true. Oh I can go on and on and on about SP and their various forms. Brilliant people.

ahhhhh i forgot about microscopic! That was pretty cool if i remember correctly... Gotta go dig it up.

yeah, you and me and rainbows was great. Actually, all of tired eyes slowly burning was great. But "last man to fly" was the freakin' bomb. I love that record sooooooo much.

Hilt anyone?

HILT was my favorite, ended up taking over my SP obsession, and truly it was HILT that got me into EM, 'cause they were kind of grunge, like real trashy SUBPOP grunge, mixed with some keyboard/drum-machine parts that ranged from brilliant to half-assed.

I immediately thought "I can do this" ... then I proceeded to reverse my voice @ 11khz in sound-recorder and realized I had a long way to go. Still haven't gotten close to their creativity.

It started w/ "journey to the centre of the bowl", but I ended up loving "call the ambulance ... before i hurt myself" even more

I also liked the spectrum of their emotions... all over the place. Can't think of another band like them (give me some tips, anyone! please!)

Yeah, lock yourself in your studio/room, and throw away the key.

I've only heard Journey to the Center of the Bowl. Are the other albums worth grabbing if you enjoyed Journey....?

I found it at this store called Media Play in Buffalo NY, for less than $5. This place was kinda like a trashy Borders with a completely unorganized used cd section. I also found the soundtrack for the movie "Killing Zoe" which is pretty damn good.

While I really like Skinny Puppy, they didn't write the book on industrial, Throbbing Gristle did. If you aren't aware of that, then you should go back and listen to albums like Heathen Earth, or 20 Jazz Funk Greats. It sounds sparse compared, but Skinny Puppy basically would agree with me on this, they even worked with Genesis P Orridge in Download.

Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle were the first Industrial acts,( songs recorded as early as 1975 ) followed by NON, Whitehouse, and SPK.

Skinny Puppy were part of the second generation of Industrial acts along with Front 242, Laibach, and later Ministry.

OK I play Industrial, so I'm a little uptight about people claiming SP as the originators of Industrial etc. :P

i don't think anybody clained sp to be the originators of industrial, but i could be wrong. But it certainly wasn't me. I'm a huge throbbing gristle fan (as well as all the splinters from tg, ptv, coil, welllllll maybe not so much chris + cosey). Shit, i've got most of the TG catalog on vinyl. I love cab too. nag nag nag...

sp just happen to be the cream of the crop when it comes to the more danceable electronic variety of industrial music.

Ohhhh, and a note on GPO... That cat is one of my personal heros. What a beautiful nut job. One of the best moments of my life was being able to grace the same stage as him during a weird electronic concert at chasama in times square. I pulled a total fan-boy and made him sign his book for me backstage.

I am pretty sure that members of Skinny Puppy collaborated with Genesis on several other occaisions. For example, "Music for Cats" is a terrific album. It also has some of Goettle's final published works on it. "beauty is the enemy" (?) is pretty awesome. I believe it was the second to last track on this album that just completely puts my heart into a parallel dimension. Pygmies (?) start chanting, eq flapping base starts smacking me around like a ship in the middle of a storm, and then suddenly it's all just celtic flutes, dub, and pure optimism. Orgasm.

There are moments in SK and DL that just floor me. IE: the vocal bit in the middle-end of VX gas attack. They have robbed me of my original focus, which was always digital art, and led me chasing the phospherenic matephors that have since been leaking through my brain. I simply cannot seperate electronic music from digital art anymore.

Brap on.
