How come most laptop performing musicians use macs??
um, well...I've used both platforms. I started on a mac lciii back in the day and then inherited a pc from my mom. About a year ago I went back to mac...I love it, but then again, mac is "far" from perfect. I have the occasional freeze here and there...also applications tend to lock up quite a lot. Hopefully this osx update will do some good.
LOL, actually, bro, you did start it with the flames. And you also said a lot of the really dumbest shit. But please don't leave...you were very entertaining. Come back, my dear sweet troll.Digi V wrote:wel li didn't stasrt it, i just couldn't hanlde people sitting here saying dumb shit.
whatever though, i'm done.
yeah it's a religion.... full of converts to the "think different" marketing.let the faithful keep using osx and thats it.
It makes you feel special, thus you talk about how special you feel all day
on BBS's.
As for spyware and virii..... It's not at all due to lack of bugs. Mac has
plenty of security holes, plenty. It's just hackers aren't interested in
targeting 2% of people, they want 98% of people.
In design offices, the amount of times I've heard the mac "I'm going to
crash now" sound is beyond counting. While on my own PC machines I've
never had any problems, and if an application does crash I can always
recover without a reboot.
Want a reason for why mac is better "out-of-the-box"?
Because it lacks flexibility. It's designed to work perfectly with very limited
customisation, whereas windows is more a matter of fully setting up your
machine exactly how you want it. If you want to change something, u can.
Don't get me wrong, mac is great for people that have a very limited
understanding of computers. For those that know what they're doing,
windows or *nix are a better, more powerful, more customisable choice.
Personally I wouldn't want a small notebook, I'd much rather a desktop
replacement with a real full-featured CPU. When size and out-of-the-box
usability aren't issues, nothing beats the power of actually having power.
Plus I kinda like being able to run software. I'd die if I was limited to only
using software written for 2% of the market.
So yeah, the logo is pretty, the marketing makes u feel special, the
simplicity makes it easy....... but I like being able to actually do stuff on a
computer..... Whatever that stuff might be.

ok i'm the dumb one right but both of you missed the points.
riiiight.
its cool you get to customize your shit. its cool that you think you're smart because you fish through a thousand folders, try to use the search function that takes an hour
kool dude.
yeh i dont like apples marketing either but i dont care
but its cool how you talk like windows is amazin because it shares a 97 percent market share. awesome, i wonder how that came to be?
i know the OSX isn't virus proof and thats why i said i'm happy to be in that 2-3 percent market share. i guess u missed that point because you were too busy configing your awesome pc.
riiiight.

the XP system is still unstable because of its foundation.
PROOF please.
In real world use I have too call that statement for what it is ...simply a LIE.
A well optimised XP is just as stable.
The difference is OSX works seamlessly off the bat with no need for system tweaks for the pro Audio user.
Which IMHO explains why more Mac Laptops are seen being used for what it's worth.
I get superb operation form XP without crashes etc.
So it seems do Kraftwerk , Venetian Snares and SquarePusher.
Hey then again what do I know.
Just don't make statements like that as though they where fact.
In real world operation and use they aren't.
the key there is "a well optimised XP"
but you know what you're right.
truthfully, everyone DONT LISTEN TO ME.
i'm an idiot, the osx sucks, stick to pc.
i much rather all you pc users never switch
let the faithful keep using osx and thats it.
i much rather have it that way anyways.
no virus, no spyware problems, none of it.
k? done.
=) thanks for using windows.
I think you have missed my point.
I am neither pro or con either platform.
Simply put in the DAW stability stakes both are pretty much on par use wise if the XP based system is well tweaked and optimised.
So obviously the very plug in and play nature of OSX is more appealing to the electronic musician or daw based user in general.
Most don't want too have to deal with service packs , system tweaks , compatibility issues and threats of spyware/malware/viruses either.
I can only speak from personal experience.
I had my DAW Professionally configured by Vinn @ AAVIMT .
It hasn't been on the net at all so I don't suffer from those issues.
I also haven't had to do anything bar standard / defragg / diskcleanup and file maintenace which you should be doing on any personal home computer regardless of platfrom.
So from my experience both platforms seem extremely stable.
I just wish people would buy there Laptops etc based on which OS they are most confortable rather than a raft full of myths and rumours on both side of the operating system pond.
In the right hands either platform is a useful tool.
With both systems going dual core also the playing field is far more even either way now with both having Intel based processors.
The real deciding factor will be purely OS based from here on in IMHO.
We'll just start gettig flame wars between INTEL and AMD instead
Who said history never repeats
My aren't the wings of butterflies beautiful and do they not make wonderful perturbations.....
Dude, you're angry. Most Mac users aren't this angry. You need a good windows machine to match your anger.Digi V wrote:ok i'm the dumb one right but both of you missed the points.

Give in to the dark side, Luke.
Well, I'm not going to get on debate. You're opion is as valid as mine.
All I know is that my PC works incredibly well, and I can get my work done without hiccups. That's all that concerns me... and because I have used crappy PCs and now I know how to buy an excellent one that will perform super well, and because my PC works like a charm, I think I can come to the conclusio a few posts ago.
Macs are awesome...
My PC is awesome too... I know the history of Windows and I know why certain application work better on Mac, hence why many people will get a Mac instead. But honestly, someone who's to buy a new PC should take a step in to researching which are the best options. I dont think the 'Windows-built-on-DOS" argument would be much relevant...
And for the record, I'm not defending Windows or PC in general, I could care less. I'm just saying that if someone wanted a good PC, he/she would have to do more elaborate research to get, instead of just pressing 'buy now' on the Dell website... sad but true

Total stereotyping, generalizing bullshit. I have three macs sitting in this room with me, not a p.c. in site. I choose mac because it is what I have come to prefer. I worked on windows 5 days a week, 25 to 50 hours a week for the last year and a half at the day job I just left and I hated it. I am extremely happy that job is over.MrYellow wrote: yeah it's a religion.... full of converts to the "think different" marketing.

So I am not the "brainwashed convert" as was insinuated in your blanket statement above. My preferences and choices have been developed by my own experience, I do not think my computer is "better", I do not feel special, and I could give two shits what any of the rest of you are using. All that matters is if it works for you.
I have a new 2 ghz dual core G5 with 2 1/2 gigs of ram, and a 23 inch hd apple display. And you know what, its fast, the display kicks ass and all told its a really nice fucking computer that was worth every single penny I spent on it. It handles everything I can throw at it and it earns me a decent amount of money. And it just so happens to look good. And I have a 2 year old powerbook that is also a really nice machine. Its still just a solid as it was the day I bought it and serves me well for gigs, client meetings, and whatever else I need a mobile machine for. And I have a G3 iMac that is going on 5 years old, definitely slow as shit but still in perfect working condition. It is perfect for my wife, who uses it to surf the net, email, and write papers on.
Oh, and yes I have an ipod too. It's great for listening to music or to use as an external hd for transporting media back and forth to school. Yes, the battery thing is a pain in the ass, but at over 3 years old it has seen extensive use, been dropped atleast twice, drenched in the rain, is running the original battery and it still has a four hour battery life. When the battery goes I will pay the $100.00 or whatever it is to put another battery in, or I will get a new one.
So, all of this apple shit I have bought over the last five years, I have had to send one thing out for repair (my powerbook when I first bought it had a bad logic board and I had it back in less than a week) and I have never had to call tech support. I still have all of it, and not only is it all in good working condition but it all is put to productive use every day.
I am not bragging and I do not feel "special", I am just comfortable that when I by apple I am buying good quality shit. And I am more comfortable working in the mac os, I simply can not stand windows.
And there is really no need to try and justify why you like windows, because I simply do not care. I have my own preferences based on my experience, I am happy, and I am sticking with what works for me. If you are happy with what you use then I am happy for you and respect your preferences.
Simply put, this is just ill-informed bullshit. Do your own research.MrYellow wrote:As for spyware and virii..... It's not at all due to lack of bugs. Mac has

Your just full of them dude. What exactly is the "I'm gonna crash now sound"? I'd like to know because I have never heard it. I don't know, maybe I'm young and you are talking about macs from ten years ago. Maybe thats because my macs don't crash? Well, I did have a problem with a sound-card driver making my powerbook crash the winter of 2003. Sometimes an app crashes, but I don't have to re-boot as a result. Really, I think it is safe to say that the only problems I have had with my machines have been with third party software, sound-card and printer drivers mainly. I earn a living using my computers, so stability is a major issue, but fortunately in my five years of using macs I have not had these problems you write about. But I will tell you this, the performance of photoshop, illustrator and indesign on the XP box at the job I just left was absolutely dismal and completely unacceptable. But whatever.MrYellow wrote: In design offices, the amount of times I've heard the mac "I'm going to

And really man, the shit you wrote here pretty much puts you on the same level as the mac fan-boys you seem to despise so much. Your just different sides of the same coin. Really, don't get mad, put your ego to the side, seriously look at the shit you wrote and think about it. Exact same fucking thing dude.
Don't take any of this personal yellow, its been a long day for me. Maybe in the future try not to make such sweeping generalizations. Not all mac users are dicks, some of us just prefer macs, simple as that. Shit man, one of my good friends here form the board, suburbanbather uses a dell.
Oh thats right, it stopped working and he bought a powerbook........
(sorry, couldn't resist)
