I think one thing that makes what you are saying somewhat right is that when you are playing a real deal full-blown rhodes, you are playing through tube amp driven stereo speakers with very loud possible volumes and a huge sound. Thus, even a great vst rhodes played through 5" studio monitors is nowhere near the same sonic experience...however, by the time you work something into a mix that will be played on conventional stereo systems, I think good plugins like LL can be much more in the 70-90% range of realism when its all said and done. No one here is saying that vsts sound better or that they'd rather play a vst than the real thing, that much is for sure.
dito!

This one's quite nice, it's not really claiming to be a Rhodes but I've had some nice Rhodeslike sounds out of it, it's good for basses too.

What would you guys suggest for a Rhodes/ Wurlitzer/ Clavinet plugin? I want all of them. I use NI B4 for my B3 sounds.

lounge lizard does some decent wurly sounds, and is my rhodes plug of choice. no clavinet there, I really haven't found a great clavinet sound yet, sampletank is aiight, but I'd love to find a better, more realistic one...

I hate to say it, because it's a mess and a bug fest........but .......when working.........it's just hard to beat elektrik piano. Claves are great, wurl damn good.....and the rhodes samples (yes, I know.........) and so authentic, it has all the quirks.

It's just that the it has to use DFD to be even remotely useful, and there are a number of bugs.......

The good news is It seemed to work well in live........

lounge lizard all the way, applied acoustics is great and getting the whole applied acoustics modeling collection is not that expensive. if you have reaktor you can get a good cross grade offer too. but you have to email them for that

M Audio's Key Rig is worth a listen too.

First of all, no, it doesn't sound better than my Blacktop. :) I do think it sounds better than Mr Ray or Organized tho'. Key Rig works as a standalone app or as a VST. So far, I've had it running on three tracks at once in Live, which is handy. MIDI mapping this thing w/ my Korg was a breeze too.

There's a new $99 intro deal to Lounge Lizard.
Dang, now I'm definetly tempted!

I'm really enjoying Key Rig. Setting up midi control with the Korg was easy and works brilliantly. I've got the Hammond bars assigned to my faders and the percusion and Leslie switches on the pads. Dial up the drive and rock! I thinks it's stable enough to use live in standalone mode. As a VST in Live, I'm not so sure yet. But I'm gonna keep working on it.

i went ahead and ordered that reasonrhodes refill. they said that each note is individually multisampled at 10 levels, and that all the .wav files are included on the dvd. if that is in fact true, then it seems well worth the $35.

we'll see. if and when i get the disc, i'll report back.

i may have missed it, but nobody mentioned using sf2 banks. .

i just found a library called jRhodes3.sf2 (google it, its free) and plugged it into apples dls player plugin. sounds great.. (and free)

edit:

since then ive picked up Sampler and it imports and loads the JRhodes samples really nicely.

Here is a HUGE PLEASE DON'T BUY IT for NI elektrik piano.

superb samples........very very accurate
It's nice and simple

but it's a bug fest...........a regular czacada swarm! They have been promising updates for a long LONG time......but to date, nothing.

as mentioned, you can get logic pro and use the ev88.........pretty darn good for the most part.....but there is the little snag of 1000 USD

erm?? bug fest in NI EP?? Hows that? Maybe you use a crack or something cause I have v1.1 and it works pretty darn good. Its easy on the cpu too. If you run it through the PSP Vintagewarmer it gets even better! And besides its only 175 euros. You have to install the stream from disk utility though otherwise you gonna need a shitload of RAM.. That UI is not included but you can download it as a registered user

From what Ive read on KVR VST, the Scarbee Rhodes Collection is the ultimate software Rhodes package

i think mr ray will let you kill the ground noise by switching the speaker emulation type or amp type. i'm not at my station right now, but it is possible.
