I am hoping someone might be able to help me understand what is happening with MIDI Pipe, Ableton and my MPK49

I have a MIDI Pipe file set to control my Juno 106 parameters. I have an External Instrument set up in Live 7 to route midi to both MIDI Pipe Input 1 and Juno 106 midi port. (to the Juno for notes and to Midi Pipe for cc to sysex conversion)

MIDI Pipe only responds to the incoming midi if I set the controllers on my MPK49 to go out MIDI Channel 1B. Ableton does not record any knob movements or controller automation going out of the MPK49 on midi channel 1B. However, if I change the controller setting in the MPK49 to go out midi channel 1A Ableton will record my knob movements but MIDI Pipe will no longer respond to them.

Can anyone help me understand why and what is happening here?

I would very much like to record automation for my Juno 106.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
