He uses a discrete loop in each song, like a "ts.ts.ts.ts.". Pretty simple, but it means that he doesn't need in-ear monitoring, really - it always blends in nicely.

Wrt the tempo changes there is no real trick to it - assign a midi encoder and you can do the same kinds of things - nudging then means "up a bit, then back down again".

I want that jacket. Not to wear at a club or anything...that would be too trite. Rather as a Sunday jacket, while having a nice cigar, and reading the paper. It seems confortable.

. . . you watch the ice-skating because of the nubile russian girls in hotpants/shortskirts?

anyways, any guesses as to whether the kid has one generic live live setup vs. a set specific to each song that he then fills up in a practiced way? the former is my ideal, i'm a little too lazy to sort out the latter. and the latter seems a little less magical (getting closer to using canned loops -- you have the structure, just hum the same thing each time to assure the audience it's you (the audience may think there's a chance you fuck up, but there's no real chance if you're a pro)).

Like I said, I watch ice skating with my wife...and the secret to a long and successful marriage is role-playing and porn.
