Is this synced and quantized? If a note triggerst the recording. When does the recording start playing?
it's synced, the little green bar shows where you are in the loop, if you tap the green bar it shows you the position in the current loop (IE the above image shows halfway through a 4 bar loop). If you tap the bar it can alternatively show you where you are within the current bar.
as far as triggering goes, it records when you press record - so you can 'punch in' whenever you want.
The above image is of an outdated version even for 'v1'
V2 has a large number of features which make it more usable, but sunny weather, sick girlfriends and me assuming that Ableton were making a killer looper made me slow down on making it.

loophead wrote:"Really? I can use a rotary control to select tracks?
and map a button to launch (or stop or delete) whichever clip is currently selected?
i don't see how.
what am i missing?"
Even easier with a Griffin Powermate. Do a search on these forums for powermate
...mate
Lots of us have been doing this forever.

tell quandry you can delete a clip on command with a pedal, I think he will be suprised.

If you can still rock on stage and Live is solid as a rock, then Live is still live.
Yo! Literary nerds, I almost made a true
CHIASMIC phrase up there!
Well i don't want to be an asshole, but have you checked the manual?
don't take names on yourself!
but for your info yes i have read the manual, and yes i am totally aware of all the fearures you just mentioned.
i know i can select tracks like that, but if i want to select between ten tracks that's ten buttons i've got to map. i would like to do it with *one rotary control*.
now imagine i want to be able to launch one of four different clips on each of those tracks, thats another ten buttons i have to map. but if there was a function to launch "the currently selected clip" i could map *just one button* instead. etc...
I don't like to labour the point, but my three clear, unambiguous sugestions to "make live looping easier" are.
1. allow a rotary control for scrolling through the tracks. (not scenes).
2. provide transport functions that apply to whichever *clip* is currently selected.
3. one of these functions should be "delete".
I can't make it any plainer than that.

now you can map a button to the "pie" icon (the one that shows the bars ticking by) and it will go straight to the currently playing clip and show it in clip view

well, i always address them collectively as "Abe"
if we're going to have a pet name I think Abe is better than Al - it's like Abe Simpson

They should change the name to something even less googleable than Live - how about " A program"
"hey bud, what are you using to make those tunes "
answer - "A program, it's great"
"but whats the programs name?"
etc.
Alternatively they could call it "Peter Finkelstein"
then when new editions come out "Peter Finkelstein III", or for the 'lite' edition "Peter Finkelstein Jr. "
it doesn't have to be Peter Finkelstein of course, Tarquin McTroutfeatures is also acceptable.

that's even better
Q: "how did you produce all this music?"
A: " I did it all on Crack, it's great!"
Q: " er, that's nice, but what program did you use?"
A: "I told you I use Crack, are you stupid!"
etc.
