btw... the whole discussion makes me remember the german tourist coming back from mallorca and he got angry about the fact that "so many people there dont speak german, what an unfriendly country"....

but who of the massive logic-pc-user-community also bought logic ?

maybe the emagic-dudes did some calculation and realized that its effortless for their company to continue logic on the win-platform...

I just wanted to add my voice to the crowd and to say that for me, personally, enhanced G4/G5 performance will be a deal-breaker as far as Live3 goes.

I have been looking at Live with interest for quite some time; I sincerely want to hop on this particular bus. However, for other reasons my next computer's going to be a TiBook. And I will only plunk down the cash and attempt to mount the learning curve of yet another program if I know that the ceiling for what I can then *do* with it isn't immediately apparent.

I applaud Ableton for what they've done so far: I just want to let them know that a lot of eyes are on this update, or so I suspect; and that I think they stand a serious chance of gaining some serious ground, if the Mac platform is improved with v3. All the best,

Dear Ableton,

Last week i was working on a track together with Raapie,
we were recording some funky wahwah gitar loops and produced
it with some nice effects. We were recording on his vaio. after the
session we copied it to my g4 powerbook. When i opened the
song on my powerbook, the Ti suddenly freezed and died.
We had to call an ambulance and after some serious mouth to mouth rehabilitation my powerbook came back to life.
Man this bummed me out, how can we work serious when we have no altivec optimalisation.
Everybody likes the new features but we Mac users rather have a fast and produktive running program than 3 new effects enz, when we can,t run the program in a normal way. Why isn,t anybody from ableton give some comment on this subject.

Can,t you do the job?

As a Mac devotee I am desperate for Altivec support to be added to the program. Please don't give PC users another excuse to bash the Mac crowd. Let Live run free in its own sea of G4-G5 potential.

Jamm good point, it would be much better for collaborators on different platforms if live was optimized for the mac.

chris...get a life, you're obviously spending more time listening to pc users
who bash macs than your own self making music.

I check into this thread from time to time to see what people have to say about this very pressing issue, and I agree with most of you (I want Live to run more efficiently on my TiBook as well), but.....--

--- despite these shortcomings, I have used Live for approx 2 years ... and .... I have been working almost exclusively in Live for two solid months now to prepare live sets as I've started to play out .... and this covers loops and basic as well as extended arrangement ideas ... in other words, complete songs! All on a 867 Mhz Powerbook, and sometimes rewired into Logic.

And it is absolutely workable!! I'm well aware about the deficiencies, and they need to be addressed with the next update, but I prefer to just work, work, work... instead of complaining in the forum all the time, and I sometimes suspect that some people here are just concerned with specs, performance etc.... Not meaning to bash anyone, it just comes across that way.
In that spirit, I would love to hear where I can find your music, either live, or on the internet, or on records. After all, that's what it's all about .... and some of the better-known Live users are still using G3 Powerbooks live .... and I've never heard them complain

dont forget that performance under OSX 10.3, due in a few short months, will, according to every single report i've read, boost performance significantly (30-40% in benchmarks, apparently).

i think that alot (but not all

) of the problem OSX users are experiencing related to performance is the OS itself. while i would certainly like to see optimisation for g4/g5 computers, i don't think it's realistic at this point.

here's looking to Panther, and to PPC optimization too!

keep in mind that Live isn't optimised for any CPU, including the P4

it doesn't bother me since I have a very good performance with my Sony.

Eh? Do you run anything but Ableton Live on your Mac?! EVERYTHING is faster (and prettier!) than OS9. It is the world's most advanced operating system, don't ya know.

well, 'most advanced' does not mean 'most tuned for speed and responsiveness' necessarily

. the reports that Panther will be a leap forward in performance from Jaguar is a clear indicator of that, IMO. prettier, yes. besides, aren't there all kinds of accounts on theses forums saying that Live is faster and able to handle more workload in OS9 than in OSX? i won't ever install it in OS9 to see the difference (in fact one of the reasons i bought Live is for a OSX audio app-- i still grudgingly use an ancient version of logic in OS9 that i'd really like to shed, current projects not withstanding) but i can certainly believe that there is a performance hit in OSX.

of course i could be totally wrong
