SongCarver wrote:in terms of vsti, perhaps the mach-o vst suppport will mean osx users can use Jack with Live. (currently does not work in live)

jack is an audio server that was ported from bsd/ linux that allows routing of audio from any apps audiounit or vst to another apps audiounit or vst.

so, if it now worked, you could simply 'jack' something like numerology (what! you dont know what that is!!!??) into Live.

thanks for that heads-up.. you're my hero!! :D

oops... i couldn't find anything on an OSX port of Jack.. :( well nothing alluding to a GUI, anyway.. no real command line skills here.. therefore you are no longer my hero, songcarver!! lol j/k :D

hmm...this Jack program might work swimmingly with AudioHijack pro as a light-weight/low-budget AudioUnit host and Live as evrything else! woo!

Ahhh, heroism is so short lived today.

no command line skills required my friend - I can't say it's the most user friendly install but it is still beta (I think)

2ndly, the guys writing, and porting this stuff are the heros - amazing!

The 'jackpilot' app does everything you want graphically, it acts as a front end to the 'server'.

thanks alex.

Step 1.
http://www.grame.fr/~letz/Jack.tgz

install (You don't have to type anything)

Step 2.

http://www.meskalina.it/elementicaotici ... ackKit.dmg

install

step 3. there is no spoon.

well, there could be a spoon, you may want to grab the slightly newer jackpilot app from the above site.

follow the instructions included, you have to do things in a certain order.

NOW, having said all that, jack does not currently work with Live, however that may change with 3.0

hope that helps.

pharmakonMtl, I also personally prefer wiretap from ambrosia software, it seems to work better for me (no latency, or start-up order) and it's free.

hope ALL THIS helps ;-)

There is a version of Jack that works with Ableton Live to some degree. Stephane Letz hasn't linked it on his homepage yet, I hope he won't mind if I make the link public:
http://www.grame.fr/~letz/JAS.tgz
Note that this one is a very early alpha version, so try on your own risk (I don't just say that, I mean it!). To install, copy the JackAudioServer.plugin from the build folder to /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/ (you may have to create that directory first). After that, Jack should be available as an output device in Live's preferences.

cool beans!

problem #1 with the install: i changed the default install directory of the jack server and it installed files and folders all over the place!

#2 is that the front end for it was installed, according to the installer, but it wont launch or it installed it in the wrong folder!

it's prolly my doing, and it is a beta, but sheesh. hope the developer works that stuff out!

hmm.. i'm not sure what you get from wiretap, but AFAIK there's no AUdioUnit hosting through wiretap. the AudioUnit part was the relevant point in my mention of AudioHijack Pro ;) :P

cheers!

i'll test out that JAZ.tgz when i've backed up my system... too much risk for now. but excellent news nonetheless! i love technology!!! and coffee!!!!!! lol
