Thankyou all for the comments.
kb420 - Well, when I began my electronic music project, I was very limited as far as influence went... I didn't have any knowledge at all of music/psy from around the globe.. only in NZ.
I began in about 2000 when nz prog/dub stuff was huge... and got really inspired by various new zealand artists (like our own Pitch Black for example) and so that kind of shaped my sound.
I think New Zealand electronica definantly has its own unique little flavour... and that helped build the foundations for my style I guess.
It also kept me away from all the politics that seem to go on in the world. New Zealand people will like your music if your good, regardless of genre (I think) so I didn't go... "right, I have to write full on to get gigs" or anything like that... I just went if I make doof doof doof and it makes people shake thier ass, then i'm succeeding.
So that resulted in me rocking up to boom and playing a set with breakbeat/progressive/minimal techy housey psychedelic music all mashed up and a lot of people came and commented on how different it was, which is cool! because they also seemed to like it.
Now the test is to see if all the experience I picked up in my travels influences my style hehehe. I'll leave that up to you guys as I'm sure ill miss it if it happens.
Thanks!
