I'm waiting until then to buy a new laptop too. An XP based laptop is not really an option for me though.

I have never been fond of their perfomance for music, but a buddy of mine still ownes the old 1GHZ PB and edits HD video on it, he has had it for years with no problems. Audiowise, they do suck though... he comes over to jam on my cheap ass emachines which puts his PB to shame when it comes to Live and Pro Tools.

Hey buddy, once again you misunderstand.
My toshiba runs live at 64 samples like a dream as I have many other apps open with no pops or clicks. I also achieve lower cpu scores than 2.0+ macbooks with my 1.66 duo and Vista rc1. It works so well its scary.

see my live 5 performance test results here
http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic. ... &start=675

see how its smoking the macbooks as if I were already running live 6? thats significantly better performance. and its rock solid. the ability to use cardbus over firewire is a MASSIVE advantage. firewire is a joke for audio.

The only slightly broken part is dragging sliders with the tablet.. tablets are for MACs AND PCs so this has nothing to do with windows or tablet pcs and everything to do with ableton being too lazy to change some code.

Other than that its flawless.. and you can still use the tablet.. you just have to click the faders instead of drag them. there is still the mouse or midi controllers or foot pedals to play with.

selling my macbook pro was the smartest thing I ever did. I LOVE the toshiba m7 and have recomended it to everyone I know. 4 of my close friends now have one and love them. It seriously is a well built machine.

intel cpu's can heat up easily and reboot just as easily when they overheat.
That's like saying "welcome to using ovens, they can easily burn you". A totally misleading approach to the problem. Apple should have done its homework and designed a computer that doesn't overheat and doesn't have "cables melting" that can cause "shot circuits". If it was a problem of intel processors, then between 80% and 90% of computer users would have random shutdowns, which is obvious is not the case, don't you think?

I feel for you guys. I hope apple fixes its problems, since i'm probably shopping for a new lappie next year :D
your analogy is flawed, because ovens dont burn you the flame or element does.

in the context of an oven.. lets say a manufacturer of ovens which ran on electrical elements decided to introduce an oven which ran on fire.

to them i would say 'welcome to the world of fire guys, you have to redesign your oven'.

Intel CPU's generally are known to run hotter. They have a less tolerant critical heat threshold as well and I know many many people with random shutdowns on their PC's due to overheating.

That's why there's a market for laptop coolers.. those pads u put under the laptop which act either as a massive heatsink or a fan to cool the laptop so it doesn't reboot from heat related causes.

Us PC user don't want to hear this bullshit about your precious fuckin apples being stable and THE BEST for audio. You've all been schmoozed by The good ol gay rainbow apple. Its all fuckin hype. Every Last bit of it. Its almost on the same lines of "Terrorism". Its basically trendy to be an apple owner now. So you look cool to your other friends for paying $2500 for a 1Ghz laptop. MAN, now thats FAST!!!

Apples, have problems too. Apples crash, Apples fuckin tweak out and have to be rebooted. Apples have to be sent to the shop for repair. Apples stop responding to ANY key commands. They do a bunch of shit you guys claim they don't.

And ALAS, Apples do EXACTLY what the poster claims. So this crap about stability is a god damn pipe dream. HYPE, HYPE, HYPE. Your apple is about as trendy as a frappacino from Starbucks.

Every day I convince myself more and more that watching people argue Mac vs PC is just like watching 2 gorillas in a zoo throwing shit at each other.

It's a fucking box. Who cares what it says on it or who makes it?

Use what works for you, but at least be grown-up enough to sing the praises of why your little box is better, rather than just badmouthing the other ones.

Otherwise, you're just making a retard (or a gorilla!) of yourself. Perhaps your time could be better spent making music.
