I agree with Tarekith. It was a really tough decision, but partly due to my economic state, and due to the fact that it's a bit overpriced, I didn't take the $35 discount or the EIC. I just bought the download upgrade.

When L5 came out, Operator went for a good discount, $99, and that's when I bought it. I feel that if Sampler has a bigger discount down the road, I may get it then, but for now I'll have to live without it.

On a side note, I hear the Covert Ops are working on a new pack that heavily utilizes Sampler. I'll be bummed if I can't use it, but again, it's a cost issue.

How big are the asses he controls with it?

I'm skipping Sampler for reasons I won't reiterate here.

I think I'll buy Sampler, not as sampler but as synth / sound design tool.

Me too  I already own Kontakt, so basically I don't need a sampler... also with simpler and racks things are different.... but after beta testing sAmpler, well, I just love it a a sound design tool, simple, straight forward, live integrated gui and a lot of potential!!!!!!

depending on the price for educational discount and upgrade path with L6, I am considering it as a viable option now. When the storm of 6 calms a bit, the Abes will return my email with the good news... ....i hope....

I've got another sampler yet. I won't buy it. I beta-tested it and I couldn't load half of my soundbanks, so forget it.

I wish I could get sampler for my Live 4 (without having to upgarde Live). Sampler seems cool.

Live 5 and Live 6 offer not enough to attract me - I am still disappointed that MIDI editing is lame and not as funny as audio editing. That's a shame.

Steff, I'd upgrade to Live 6 at a minimum. The performance and other excellent management tools alone are worth it. As for Sampler, I wouldn't do it if money is an issue.

Hello,

thanks for your reply.

Well, honestly, trying the demos of Live5 and Live6 the new management seems more than a bit messy to me. Channelstrip settings are nice, but they should be in a channelstrip settings area and I would love to access settings from within the device and not from the browser.
I do not know, all that device exchanging - if I put an operator there I want an operator there and not get it exchanged with a simpler because of a preset - hello, do they take me for bullocks? (This started with Reason3, then Live 5 and Live 6 and Cubase is to follow with version 4 - this alone is offence enough to not get that ...)

what seems interesting to be is the midi control of the loop start and end points for audio clips and a little bit the rebeat effect (although, it is too random for how I currently do my stuff).
I would love to warp MIDI clips (like audio), set start offsets in MIDI clips envelopes (like for audio) and at least have MIDI out during rewire mode (as I cannot have VSTis/AUs in rewire mode).
There is a lot of great stuff inside Live6, but somehow I cannot say - ok, it is worth upgrading from version 4. Sampler seems all way cool for mangling - expensive for that, but still.....

I heard 6 was out today. I bought it almost right away. Sampler was mentioned on the pre-checkout page - i watched the movie - i was sold, but i think they're asking way to much for it.

I like it because it offers an interface i understand.

If the bundled upgrade price is right I might just buy it.

Thing is my main reason would be that Live as a rewire slave can't host AU/VSTi, but Sampler, Simpler, Impulse and Operator work. Plus Live will save the samples from Sampler as a self contained set.
As for reasons not to get it, the features aren't near Konatct, and to get a sound set for it, you pay an extra $100 for the EIC collection in the boxed set. So all told with a discount it's $270, and not nearly as feature rich as Kontact, which you can get for that price.
I already have Logic's EXS24mkII and it pisses me off they discontinued the AU version, so I can't use it in Live. Another sampler that works only in one host is a bad thing for a host whore like me.

Although I think it is a bit pricey, I ended up buying it. I thought it was worth 150 usd max, but 165 after the discount was close enough.

I just love the fm oscillator on samples, as well as the morph filter. Everything sounds great through the M12db. And the fact that you can drag a sound straight from a clip or the browser is pretty great.
The combo of Live and sampler is like a true sampler, much like hardware samplers that actually record the samples rather than just load 'em. It's very quick to record something it and throw it straight in without having to deal with different interfaces and browsers. I like that.

I'm definitely pretty stoked on it right now.

Well, Got Sampler with L6 as soon as the shop opened up. Have tons of akai and E-mu sample cd's (own E-Mu E4XT Ultra) Been spending the past day importing most of my collection to native "sampler". The process has been to use CDXtract to convert the AKAI cd's to GIGA sampler format. Why? when beta testing, found that AKAI importfrom cd's were importing with wrong velocity values.(after velocities of 100 or higher) volume would drastically reduce. (found out on another thread that this happened sometimes with akai imports) Anyways, additional step aside, once converted to giga format importing went very smoothly. So far, things have gone rather well. I got tired of waiting for UB updates from 3rd party developers, and decided to give sampler a go. Gotta say, as of right now, Live 6 w/ sampler will solve most of my needs.( I do a large amount of international touring and use live to control my entire rig. ie. Program changes for my external gear, Controlling songs of ours with loops. countoffs, click tracks etc., as well as a lot of studio keyboard and programming work)

To the point, right? bottom line, the $164 i paid for Sampler after free upgrade discount, I consider to be enormously well spent. And look forward to enhanced functionality as the weeks and months progress.

btw With the sample collection I have and other soft synths, the EIC isn't really necessary

Cheers to everyone else putting live to the test
