#1, you're referencing a TNT movie of the week as if it was the god's honest truth, which I just find funny.

#2, doesn't that movie also show that Apple ripped off IBM before Microsoft ripped them off?

Just askin'

I have been using vista for months and LOVE it.
It smokes xp and osx. super solid and all my software works great.
I get 16% on the live 5 perfomance test with live 6.01 on my 1.66ghz core duo toshiba tablet. That is better than 2.16ghz macbook pros on osx... wha wha what? yes its true.

uh no. my 2.0ghz dual macbookpro hovers between 16% and 20%

following the rules for the live 5 performance test.

with only 1GB of ram.

in windows it was exactly the same on this machine.

here's how i see it.. if it aint broken, dont fix it.

from my point of view (with yeeears of experience with windows up to xp sp2, and switching a year and a half ago to macs), if you have osx and it works well for what you do? stick with it, if you have xp and same deal? sure!

vista (like how xp was with user's opinions before it came out) will eventually become what xp sp2 is today.. people will eventually get over/get used to it's flaws, and accept that it is windows...

Sure people should have a chance to try xp, or vista, or even osx (or linux if you have a slick audio setup with that) but at the end of the day, its all about how the user feels about it...

I personally will stick with macs (no reason for me to ever go back to windows), and i've played with vista rc2... the graphical effects personally are wank-factors. OSX at least has practical uses for it's graphical effects (i.e. expose)

there's my $0.02 :P

If Microsoft succeeds with cramming this compulsory validation "feature" into their forthcoming release... I'm switching to Mac! I've had it with their Orwellian crap.

Reality was more like this... Apple copied the basic idea of the mouse from Xerox, and added multiple windows. Woznick came up with the typewriter keyboard as interface, and Gates asked for kernel level access to the mac OS, ostensibly to make Word run perfectly in the new windows environment. less than a year later Microsoft had an OS that not only mimicked Apple's, had whole sections of code lifted from the Apple OS.

Say what you will about Apple, there is a distinct difference between stealing and copying. Microsoft stole the OS from Apple, and Apple copied it after seeing the Xerox beta machine, that's history.

The deal that gates struck to buy 100 million shares of Apple stock was a back door settlement for the court cases that Apple had successfully won. Microsoft could afford to keep them in court forever, and Gates basically told jobs that they would do exactly that, or they could accept the cash as non sellable stock options.

Only thing that bugs me about Vista really is the price. I haven't bought XP for the macbook simply because Pro is $199 and I can get the Izotope bundle for $219.

Maybe you had problems...I find it funny reading all these crash bitches, I have experienced few big crashes on either XP or OSX...of course, I maintain my computers regularly.

That said - I don't plan to get into Vista any time soon either.
yeah and thats a 2.16 dude, i am running a 1.66 THATS A BIG DIFFERENCE,

but thanks for proving my point.

uh.. read the thread, we are talking about vista, not xp. it is not the same with vista. it would be lower than 16% on a 2.0ghz and it would not "hover"... snicker...

and for the rest of you...
look at what a tiffy your in?
700mb for graphics?
hmmm... right. dwm.exe shows 56mb and i have about 100 windows open....

why are you worried about activation? are you planning to pirate vista?

the only hardware i have that wont deal with my mp3s is my girlfriend's sorry ass ipod... paahlease.. apple, your not my mom, so dont tell me what i cant copy FROM my ipod... the iriver is so much cooler.. kind of a metaphor....

jealous much?
enjoying vista ALOT... its fast, its stable, its pretty, it has 100x more software..

hey anubis, daniel jackson here.........

Trust me as a two platform person that apple has more "Orewllian" crap going on at the moment. It seems to be a no win (no pun intended) situaltion.

OSX is far far less supported even though I like it more personally.......and service/nazi-izm? Apple rules on that one.......forget it. They are like .....but our product....shell out an additional 1000+ warranty and maybe we'll give you the time of day.

That being said, there is no reason as of yet to update to vista.........remember.......it took a long time for both xp and osx to start getting "with it" so to speak..........
