I'm used to XP's key commands, and MAcs have entirely different ways of doing things related to alt, cmd, and ctrl buttons. Heck, the delete key works like a XP backspace key, not like the XP delete key, so even type is difficult at times still. Jst things to get used to though.
I went nuts over this for a while too. Hit Function-Delete. (fn-Delete)

Thanks guys (and gal). Most of the issues I'm dealing with are just minor things, nothign major. It's like learning a new sequencer as far as I'm concerned, just takes stickign with it a bit.

I found the plug ins, just took a bit for me to get my head around the way things are stored and saved in OSX. Funny, people always say OSX is intuitive, but that's only true if it's all you've used or if you've used it for awhile. Coming from XP only background, it's quite a culture shock to say the least :)

I definitely see the benefits, just takes awhile to thigns being so much 'easier'. :)

Well yeah, OSX is easier if you know nothing and compare both platform .. otherwise, you have to "forget" your habits and all. takes time.
If you dont compare and try to relate to XP, it is more logical and intuitive though.
Have fun!

Tarekith, you brave soul, how was getting all your files over? Did you save everything as ALP for each set? I am curious about your file migration.

Partition is dead simple, you just boot from the OSX install DVD (hold "C" when the mac boots) and then select disk utility. It shows you your HD as a vertical bar, and you can visually drag lines up or down to set the partition sizes. Or type them in manually. You can set the names and format for each, then just click "Repartition", done. Very simple, takes like 10 seconds to do.

So far file migration was not an issue at all. I had everything backed up on my external HD, the MBP recognized it asap and I just copied things over to the internal Mac HD. Live had no issues recognizing them, all went perfectly.

My TI and Ultralite both installed and were recognized fine, the TI in particular was WAY easier to install on the Mac. No issues with having to unplug the USB cable many times as part of the driver install process.

I'm getting a lot more used to OSX now, really liking this actually. The bundled software with the MAc is great too, dictionaries, thesaurus, national white pages, iDVD is a breeze to use, iPhoto is probably the best photo tool for organizing images. I was using iTunes for my MP3's even on the PC, so that's a no brainer for me. Only downside there (which I knew about ahead of time) is that my MP3 player is a Creative Zen Micro, which doesn't work with the Mac (go figure since they're suing apple). Oh well, Christmas is coming, guess I'll have to ask for a Nano. :)

so tarekith, did you re-partition the internal drive and install xp?

and

did you re-partition your osx drive and 'NOT' have to re-install any applications on it? so everything was fine in osx when you turned on the macbook but you wanted to partition it, you just stuck the boot disk in the drive, restarted, and then did what you wrote before, and that was it?

so tarekith, did you re-partition the internal drive and install xp?

>>>No, I'm going to go the Parallels route once my other gig of RAM comes in. That way I don't need to mess with adding another XP partition, and I can run OSX and XP at the same time. Seems like the apps I need to run in XP are working fine in Parallels after a bit of research. <<<

did you re-partition your osx drive and 'NOT' have to re-install any applications on it? so everything was fine in osx when you turned on the macbook but you wanted to partition it, you just stuck the boot disk in the drive, restarted, and then did what you wrote before, and that was it?

>>>I booted from the OSX install disc and repartitioned the very first time I powered on the MBP. Didn't make sense to me to set up the initial OSX settings (name, network, etc) if I was just going to have to do it again. And yes, I did need to reinstall OSX after this process, that much is just like XP based machines. Simple to do though, and takes about half the time a fresh XP install needs (roughly, I wasn't timing it or anything).
