Ok, stupid question time.
I've seen sequencers, I think I kinda know what they do etc.
Could someone give like a couple sentence background as to maybe the history, why they exist, what they do, why 16 steps, etc.
Thanks cause I'm too lazy to wiki this (and I think I'll get a better answer here).

It works! Cancel my appointments, turn the phone off, lock the doors, I just got a sick new toy.
Having velocity control on the chords would be cool, but there's no room.
The random macro and the scale controls are great for making drum breaks.

look at the classic synths and drum machines (tr 808, tr 909, tb303 etc), they have the buttons along the bottom row to turn notes on and off, from what I know that's where it began.
as for 16, that gives you the ability to program 16th notes and faster if you bump up the bpm. 16 is a rhythmic and musical number.

Keep in mind. I only made 2 chord shifts available. You still have 4 more under the hood.
But you actually gave me a good idea. I will be able to make a sequencer that is more suitable for drums.
One thing I plan to do, is to mod some of the step macro's.
I'll change the note lenght and random scale to velocity controls for the 2 chord shifts...
This wont actually change the project you're working with. Since it will just be a default preset like the "16 ascending notes" preset.
Expect an update very soon. More presets, more patterns and an updated manual.

...heh.
I've got a thought. What about 127 of those racks all mounted in paralell in a single bigger rack with a midi knob assigned to select which one is functioning? You could then map the 8 macro knobs of the one bigger rack to the same parameters in each, and it would work the same, but you would have 127 patterns at your fingertips with a knob turn, rather than by triggering clips.
hmmmmm?!?! I might buy that just to modify it like that and see if I can break my computer...

I think i could find a much simpler solution.
1 knob to select 1 of the 128 patterns and 1 button to launch it.
Though, you can move around in Live 6 by holding alt while pressing the arrow keys. You can move up and down from the control to the pattern section.
And when it comes to bigger racks...
I once built one with 128 samplers that each had 128 different samples.
That preset takes about 8 minutes to load
And the sound aint exactly music...
To be clear about the sequencer. There's a difference between presets and patterns on the Covert Seq.
Patterns are what are feeded to the steps. It is the order in which the steps are played.
Presets are the actual settings of all the parameters. That takes less then a second to load. And you can also access them in the browser without touching the mouse.

Hi everybody,
This is just to let you know that all the Covert Seq owners should have received a new update.
We added a few more patterns and presets.
The manual is updated, because the previous manual didn't have any information on installing the presets.
By popular demand, there is also a modified Seq preset that is more suitable for layering drums.
The note length and Random note scale have been replaced by 2 velocity parameters for the chord shifts.
Simply load up to preset named "Drum Seq" to play with this new layout.
Kind Regards,
- The Covert Operators

I must be missing something...
I know there's a clip launch button that you can map to midi for each track - so that whatever clip in that particular track is in the currently selected scene goes.
So I could see it working for multiple patterns across an equal number of tracks, all in the same scene, but I don't understand how you can get one button and one knob to launch the clip of your choice from all of the ones in a single track...
does that make any sense?

Well currently there isn't an easy solution (as in Live only). Though i could probably make something for this in max really quick..
A patch that converts a CC to notes...
Then all you need is a knob and the track launch button.

Thanks, I checked out the pdf on the tr808 and it makes more sense now.

Turn the velocity of the step down to zero

I didn't get an e-mail.
I was setting this up with your 128 slot drum rack, when I was done I noticed that I couldn't play the full range of drum slots, I'd figure 128 drums, 128 positions on the note knob, but something's not set up right.
I can look into this later, I found it before I passed out last night and now it's the am and I'm at work, so I can't check it out for a while. Any tips you can throw out between now and 8 hours from now are appreciated.
Thanks!

Email sent. If anybody else didn't receive it, let me know.
I'll check out the 128 drum rack thing. That'll just be another preset i'll have to add.
Cheers
