zebra 2 looks very tight,
now the thing wit reaktor, id really just want it to load sounds and mangle them into oblivion to make my own sounds, not necessarily sequence drums on it or anything.
just for synthesis(even out of recorded samples.)

its just i dont wwant to buy one and then it not be something ideal

ive been usin the mx4 demo on my computer its much easier to get into than say massive but what it produces isnt the same sound i like, which massive just has this sound to it, only thing is i dont think you load samples into either.

reaktor, for sure. its got a steep learning curve, has garbage tutorials (especially compared to max/msp). but for sheer sound quaity and the thousands of freely available ensembles up for grabs in the user library, you'd nver need another modular program. plus, since vers.5, its really quite stable. plus to save cpu you lessen voices, sample rates etc, or just bounce audio. R5 and live go really well together i think.

yea ima mess with this reaktor demo for tonite with live, and get some ensembles, bounce down audio see how it works in my tracks, but seems like reaktor is the winner by choice.

It will take some time for you to learn Reaktor. Definitely give it a few weeks if you haven't done anything like it before.

Same thing with Max/MSP. You want to do all the tutorials before you know if you like it. It probably won't make sense the first night..

I would say for your only synth, go for something simpler and learn it inside out. Lifetimes can and will be spent on Reaktor and Max... but time spent != results..!

i havent upgraded to live 6, but reaktor 5 as a plug in live 5 works really well. totally syncs up, so you can make perfect beats recorded into live, no need to even warp them after.
plus i fiound opening reaktor au/vst inlive used to be a hassle, as you need to go through the reaktor guff about where to store the .ens file every time, but since live 5 you only need to do this once, then drag the midi track with the ensemble to the brower where itll be saved with all its info to easily drag into another liveset whenever you want.
plus, reaktor is FINALLY available as UB if you have a faqncy new intel mac.

i began to know what im doin after i started to use programs like reaktor, where you are submerged by a huge quantity of ensembles and stuff.

i began to really understand what a filter is, for example, by unconsciously comparing the differences from an ensemble to the next rather than focussing on one.

besides reaktor, i also like Tassman, which to me sounds less digital.
But the guys at Applied Acoustics still havent released one single UB yet and keep on blowing their deadlines, which is rather worrying.

see im lost in thr rut, i havent even heard of tassman before.

but i may do the minimalism route, maybe stick with sampler/operator(is there any tutorials besides the one pdf and the 2 videos on operator?)

i find that with my 512mb of ram and resampling things ive done inmassive and mx4 and also live recorrdings(to save up cpu space) helps me come up with more, like a no turnin back type of deal....thas not to say when i buy my new macbook pro i wont get the 3 gbs of ram(more for live show reasons)

but man its like there is just so much shit out there to choose from.
it helps to know your gear inside out not just buy any hot shit....

maybe i should learn the abes shit first, thenn start expandng(but continue to resample off of demos)

seriously.. go for Reaktor..

- it can handle all your needs in one package..
- 1000's of pre-made instruments in the user library..
- very big user/knowledge base..
- lower learning curve as max/msp..

Reaktor gets you playing right out of the box for years without the real need to build your own instruments.. It's really easy to customize existing instruments.. This is a good method to learn the enviroment..
It can be a cpu hog but so can all other instruments..
And about the NI customer support; aren't we all a bit spoiled by Ableton' support?

Depends on the type of sounds you want also, Reaktor is really top class if you want to have futuristic digital sounds, as you all know it can do stuff that no other synth can. The only downside is that it can be quite complex, but if you put in the effort and make it your synth, then the rewards will be great. Also I am very impressed by Zebra 2, can get some great sounds from its rather interesting oscillators.
Another good all rounder is Arturia's Prophet V, has wavetable and analog oscillators and a great sounding analog filter, am biased though as I did the algorithms for it
