another thing you must consider, Battery has a TON of automatable parameters
but Live will only let you see 128 of them

are they the 128 you need though........ 8O

Battery versus LIVE

I have to admit, a single VST that holds enough weight to battle the entire ableton application deserves a look...

So far I've seen a legion of Otters on the side of Battery and a little frowny face for Ableton

as I quoted before

...and so it begins

don't you think?

its not what you use, its how you use it.

ah man, the voice of reason and common sence

I was hoping for a good 'ole fashioned internet chat room flame war - dang

I guess if you're looking for something like that

search

Operator + worth + NI

see what you get - pretty interesting results about what LIVE can can't do that NI can / can't do

but spiralgroove had to be reasonable and correct - props

peace

No I'm not serious - maybe if we were kicking it at a club or bar and I said it and got a reaction right away. That way I could respond a lot quicker with a punchline then the joke would have been effective.

but like Michael Richards my timing was off

;)

oh and my money is still on Battery

watch, I upgrade to Live 6 and Battery 3 and I still don't use Racks or Battery to write beats - kind of like the SCALE plug-in and Reaktor when I upgraded to Live 5 and bought Reaktor - I ended up selling Reaktor and I still don't even know what the scale plug-in does

well mark my words on the 128 parameters

at least using impulse or simplers you know no mod locations will be lost.

Using racks of samplers/simplers etc. for multiple velocity layered drums how would one go about creating the equivalent of choke groups though?
For realistic/semi-realistic hi hats (open closed etc.) choke groups are fairly essential one would think.
Or is there some way of creatively using Live's midi effects (for instance) to emulate this?
Just wondering.

probably would require some clever use of the scale plug on each channel...

- load a sampler with an open and closed hihat only..
- set sampler to 1 voice..
one minor thing is that the open hihat will self choke..

to cover that problem;
- load an open and closed hihat and a 'dummy' sample..
(this 'dummy' sample could be empty or you could set it's volume to -inf dB)
- set voices to 2..

so if you trigger the open hihat twice, quickly after each other it will not self choke..
though if you want to choke the open hihat you just trigger the closed hihat and the dummy sample at the same time..

not a pretty workarround but it can be done.

Thanks for the replies guys, im a new guy to all this so gonna go with battery as i like the interface and the sound library seems quite comprehensive.

Of course - dummy samples, why didn't I think of that?
Sometimes the solution is so simple.
