Anyone remember the song of his that was used in the movie Predator?

Here is a little info on how Pat Boone jacked Richard, and got his record played soo much that Richard's original record never even got charted.

Racism works both ways...I think it's very unfair to accuse white people of stealing off black people, as much as it would be unfair vice versa. I have no idea what 'dub' is either. All I know about Phil Spector is that he made songs that to be honest, sound all the same.

Respect to all races who make decent music IMO!

I think the Guy Called Gerald album title called Black Secret Technology really describes its all - the rhythm from Africa that still thumps through all the popular styles of music today.

A few years ago at a party one of my friends wrote "Black Music" on her arms with a permanent marker to remind the DJs what to play.

But, to turn the thread on its head a bit, who are the white artists that really have got soul, even if they copied a black sound to begin with? I'd wager to say that Eric Clapton has proved himself capable of playing the blues as much as anyone. The Beastie Boys defined a corner of hip hop.

Hip hop is the world's music now. I was in Beijing a few years ago and I heard some fairly convincing chinese rapping on the radio. North african youth have appropriated hip hop as the language of the oppressed here in Europe, complete with all the clothing etc.

I don't know what it all means - but I do know I owe black music a good bloody chunk of my heart.

Everybody gets hijacked. It's useless to separate where something came from and through who in music. Pointless. Everything has been influenced from what came before it. Eminem, was one of the greatest rappers ever and there are plenty of respectable black rappers who would agree and respect his contribution.

There's just tons of white folks who love black music so much, they wanna make it. That's not stealing, that's appreciation. Hell, why not argue that blacks stole the white mans 12 tone system and instruments. Anyway, whites stole blacks long before they stole black music.

There's no argument, just coincidence and musical evolution.

imitating reggae, soul, blues, etc - thats one thing.

Without whom, by the way, post-war jazz would have been unthinkable. Miles Davis actually had the nerve to call his music 'jazz', although Stravinsky actually predates jazz by a good ten years and was trained in probably the whitest music tradition you can think of.

In spite of the R&B/funk influence it obvious that Kraftwerk wouldn't have existed without Karlheinz Stockhausen... and there would have been no cheap japanese synths for house musicians to play with without the demand from white rock bands who wanted a 'symphonic' sound...

It works both ways FFS. Heck, why do you think dixieland jazz used the instruments they did? Banjos, trumpets, trombones? All old french army surplus... certainly nothing to do with Mother Africa.

I appreciate that you still have issues with slavery in America, on both sides of the colour fence, but sometimes this black identity movement just goes too far. Nation of Islam cunts claiming that the ancient Egyptians were black... Now THAT is 'ripping off'!

Ummm....that's a hot potato! Lets assume you mean "white people of stealing MUSIC off black people"...I don't think there's any doubt that Europeans and their descendants stole (and it ain't over) mountains of blood and treasure from Africa. And that certainly wuzn't too fair.

Hip Hip is not the worlds music. Its black music period. This is how this shit gets started. Blacks cant claim Indian music as their own so how the hell Hip Hop is now the worlds music. Not to mention blacks are still the most hated people on the planet, wherever we go we are despised and hated.. GIVE me a break. Also remember kids just like how they attempted to crown Elvis the king of rock. They also attempted to crown Bill Whiteman the king of Jazz. See what we mean by stealing.
