This looks fairly painless...

Last question before I decide on fighting this 40-headed dragon:

Will running these scripts (Chuck and/or Max) screw with the settings for my other gear (M-Audio keyboard, BCr and Keytar)?

Its looking good.

Is ther a resource that tells how someone built the siamese 40h?

cool link, I'll check the PC version.

I don't see how they could screw up your BCR or keytar (lol I forgot about that, you were so stoked to get that) each device is a separate USB port, they don't see each others' data, per the USB standard.

Siamese 40?

Chuck looks pretty cool and seems to be free

They do say it can be unstable though...

Wanker, you're just ripping people off. Monome 40h kits are to be announced any moment now for far less than you're asking.

Take your proceeds, buy a hammer and smash your skull in.

how am i ripping people off? i'm not trying to fool anyone. hell i posted the link in the thread that talks very clearly about the kits that are imminent and their potential price point :?

this is for a assembled Monome 40h, not a kit. i was one of the first 40h users to receive shipment, and have helped Brian to sell several other units within the region. additionally, i did a Monome 40h demo at last years EMS (electronic music summit), a Monome sponsored the event.

as i stated, i am saving for the 100h. if you're not interested in my eBay item then don't buy it. i merely trying to get top dollar, i don't think thats wrong at all.

sheesh man!

After seeing the ebay auctions of late people are selling them for top dollar. My bad, good luck on the profit, wish I bought three of them when I could, keep one and sell two for a 100h,

yeah me too! i hate to even let it go for a couple of months until the 100h drops, but i have tons of remix projects and engineering to do. i'm hoping that will eat away some of the time until the precious 100h comes out.

I'm still waiting for a 40h, I've never held one but I've read the site, reverse engineered it and am pretty confident I can make a full color version. Talk about blue balls, this is worse than Xmas. Cool community those monomes, I hope they do well.

so for the musicians and non solderers among us, the easiest way to get a working 40h is to buy one logic kit and one keypad kit?

i then need to get a case and faceplate made?

apart from the soldering and attaching to the case, is that all that has to be done before plugging the bad boy into live?

the software side looks pretty easy, the army of geeks have done all the heavy lifting it looks like. bless you geeks!

i work at a uni, so i reckon i could get the soldering and case done for pretty little money....hmmmmmmmmm

Or buy one for $750-$950. Fuck, I should put up an ebay auction now and get the kit made next week,  Dunno how soon they'll ship, orders will be taken later this week.

I linked to the .pdf specs for the faceplate in posts above this one, print it and take it to any machine shop, metal or plastic

There are tutorials I linked to for Live in posts above, setup seems pretty simple.

Why am I being so cheap? I'm not bitching about the price, just hoping. You're an idiot.

Besides, I wouldn't say I'm cheap-- I own a 40h.

Tone Deft, thanks for the replies.

i have read through pretty much most of the links you have posted but I need a little parsing, as a lot of it doesnt make much sense to a non electronics guy like me.

im still a geek, as im writing this from my computer workshop, im just a different species of geek to the electronic hobbyist!

so to recap, the casual user can buy one logic and one keypad kit.

They will need to have a faceplate (thanks for pdf) and a case made. They will also need to purchase the LEDs and have them soldered. the board then gets mounted into the case and thats it ready to go?

i certainly dont mind the runaround and time of getting it assembled if it comes out half the price of the ones on ebay. for $400 assembled i can justify it, for $800, i start looking at you Lemur or a badass synth!!!

damn. i think i am in.

can someone suggest a good soldering iron? monome priced good ones at 100...that is a little much..but i guess it might encourage me to do other soldering.

and what is a way to become proficient with soldering ? i would like to do this before messing with my 250 dollar kit.
