I first started sequencing on a yamaha psr-510 of all things (we had some software on the computer but I don't remember what, I was mostly working with just the keyboard's built-in capabilities); and synthesis I got started on my high school's DX-7 (though I didn't really know what I was doing back then). Then there was a long gap (10 years or so) until last year, when I bought live.

My first tool was ModEdit v2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ModEdit. The power core at this time was an Intel 286, 12MHz, 1MB SIPP RAM, 20MB HDD:).

I would use the demo on my Power Mac and mix live onto tape. I had a Mackie 1604, RE-201 space echo, Oberheim OBX-A, Moog Rogue and a bunch of guitar pedals... what fun.

Bars & Pipes on the Amiga 1200 - I quickly swapped that for an Atari ST with Notator and never looked back.

started recording on my stereo tape deck (i think it was a "gerrard") with headphones plugged into the mic inputs, sing into one and put the 0ther one on my amp.

after that is was a fostex x-28 four track cassette (still use it!)

sound designer was what i first recorded anything into a computer with (except for a casio sk1)
and the first incarnation of pro-tools (i think, it was 1995, maybe 96)
then i started working in studios (mci, studer, and otari 2" machines, and an occasional, ugh...ADAT)

bought a tascam 38 1/2" 8track (that i still use)
and finally after years and years of being an analog "purist" (as anyone who worked with ADATS usually became) i got a Dr. Sample, which led to a computer which led to an MPC which led to a laptop which led to LIVE.

Sequential SixTrak
Casio CZ1000 - this and the Six Trak I got at High School
Emu Systems EII+ .
Akai ASQ10 & Alesis MMT8
Roland SH101 - purchased new like the other gear I might add at high school and very early teens also.
2 old Korg drum machines and a TR606 using din sync cables also.
Later Sequenced everything on an Ensoniq EPS (not the 16+) and used to have a couple of Sequential 2002+ Samplers and an S900 .

Didn't get into software at all till Live 3.0 either.
