Sonalksis stuff works great for me, I use it all the time in V6.

Sonalksis works for you? What version are you using? I demoed SV-315 MkII (version 2.02) and couldn't get the sidechain to work. I heard that the sidechain only worked in an older version.

I really want this compressor to work because I just really like the sound of it

OK here are the results. I just downloaded the demo of SV-315 and the side chain function is working great! I'm running Live 5.2.2.

And it's a great sounding compressor too!

It is a great sounding compressor! The developers are former AMS-Neve engineers. And sidechain does work.
But Teknobryan only wants to spend around 50$ so I think he should better do the Autopan simulation...

Can you please explain how you did this because I keep trying the external sidechain with this and it doesn't work.

Basically I tried putting the SC version on one track and the non-SC version on another and the compressor doesn't appear in the outputs of the track. I also tried all sorts of combinations and it doesn't work. The manual doesn't explain what to do.

I just used the AU. Select the output of the first track to the second track and then select SV-315. Turn the sidechain function on. The second track will compress from the input of the first track.

You can also get your first track's audio back into the mix by turning up one of the sends the whole way.

I haven't tried the VST's yet...I'll give it a shot.

Now I tried the VST. I haven't been able to select audio into the sidechain of any of the VST versions. So I can't get the VST external sidechain to work.

I emailed Sonalksis to see what's up.

OK, I heard back from them and they said that Steinberg rewired sidechain stuff for VST but a fix is on the way.

In the meantime, you can download the earlier version which still works with Live. I'm sure if you email Sonalksis, they will send you a link to download the earlier version. Good luck!

cool. I tried the AU version it and worked! I really like the sound of the Sonalksis compressor. I might just get it.

did anyone actually use the sidechain function of Wavearts Trackplug?

i downloaded the demo and sidechain ain‘t working. i did the routing right...

so this means there is the wavearts comp which ain‘t working in live, the dualcomp which ain‘t working at all and the sonalksis one which doesn‘t really give a nice pumping sound like the vanilla comp for example.

Downloaded Wavearts Trackplug and had sidechain compression working in five minutes. So it works just fine.

How much did that cost you?

are u using live 6? what settings did u use in trackplug?

the sonalksis one was working for me so i doubt i routed sth wrong..

After demoing the sonalksis one, I decided to buy it. I think the pumping sound I can get is great. And even though there aren't that many options for the mac, this is the best software sidechain I've heard. Unless the vanilla comp does some kind of extreme pumping? Guess it's all relative? I haven't tried the vanilla.

Why can't you get a nice pumping sound out of it? Sure, the character of a compressor comes in to play...but getting the right pumping sound is primarily about setting the timing controls of the compressor correctly. And basically sonalksis and vanilla have mostly the same parameters. The sonalksis one is top quality to my ears, closer to how a hardware compressor sidechain reacts than a sofware one.

I scrutinized and compared sonalkis, trackplug, and dyn-amizer continuously for two weeks with the demos. (and yes everybody, I can confirm they all sidechain just fine with Live!) Trackplug and dyn-amizer almost seemed too smooth for me. Smooth is good but they were so smooth, it was on the verge of bland for sidechaining, at least. Sonalksis had just a tad of color without being over the top, so it was the best to my ears. I can't imagine what I could possibly be missing with vanilla...

Anyone here who has tried both sonalksis and vanilla?
