Here is a question re: tunecore-- I have some tracks I'd like to put out that are longer (10-20+ minutes) and that I would not put out on CD, but would like to distribute. Does tunecore take 'extended mix' type "singles"?
...the answer would seem to be 'yes', an 'album' has to have at least one track. So it's basically $10 to get listed in all the stores they support.
My thought is that someone should come out with an MP3 store for 'extended mix' (for lack of a better term) singles, where they go for $3 a pop or so.

you guys should go around looking for DD on the internet, but tunecore is great bcuz its cheaper than any other distributer but it just take to long to get the music on there lets say you album is supposed to drop a month after you finished a month and a half after you finished the last tune, and you been putting out singles already, you know it will not be up on itunes for that date right?

It never ceases to amaze me how neanderthal the major labels are when it comes to all things tech.
It would be a different world if we could get some silicon valley CEO's to go in there and shake stuff up.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in their defense tho, i know a few people who work for zune and they try very hard to get exposure for independent music...they've done big deals with labels like sub pop and are in the midst of a promo campaign for maximo park.
and also re: itunes...the music store is in many ways just a marketing vehicle for ipods, and rumor has it that their rejection of small labels is due to understaffing more than it is some bigger conspiracy. its all about how shortsighted major labels and the riaa are...once apple/microsoft/etc have enough power they'll start flexing it and cut the majors off at their knees. (its already started to happen with the itunes drm free announcement).
You absolutely correct about the understaffing at iTunes. That's all I can say without going to murky territory between me and my clients!!
