We were all n00bs once, asking the same questions.
Don't give 'em a hard time! Be nice and they will stick around and blossom into jaded assholes like the rest of us.

This is the official the_planet welcome wagon. Welcome all new members! Feel free to ask about anything, and contribute your experiences with Live. It is an amazing program, and we strive to create a friendly place for people to share knowledge and create an army of Live users. Then we will take over the world.

It's about 24 hours per 5 lbs, so about 3 days. You HAVE to do it in the refrigerator though. Otherwise you will get sick. There are other methods, such as putting it in a deep sink with cold running water, but the fridge method is the most economical.

When it's thawed, inject it 3-4 times in the various parts (thighs, legs, 2x in the breasts, wings) with a mixture of Cajun Power garlic sauce, hot sauce, lemon juice, a bit of tomato juice, a bit of sugar, and any other spices you might like. Put it back in the fridge overnight to let the juices get in the meat.

Finally, heat up a big ass pot of peanut oil to 350 degrees (use your thermometer), and drop the turkey in. It should be ready in about 30-45 minutes. Deep fried turkey is sooooooooooooo good. Serve with a big salad, some rice & beans, a nice amber ale, and Louisiana sheet cake for dessert. Your guests will love you.
