Logic 8 finally released! NO JOKE THIS TIME!

Perhaps the Abes waited for Pro Tools and Logic to get their updates before releasing a new version of Live. This would make more sense, given they are trying to convert DAW users to Live, what better way than to sit back and observe the competition release their updates before introducing a new upgrade. Looks like some new built in instruments are in order for the next major live revision!

Two words: MIDI sequencing. Once you figure out how logic's midi editing works, you'll never go back.

There are lots of other things that are nice about logic, such as the built-in instruments, sound libraries, etc., and sure people will make the argument for them as well. The fact is, though, that logic's been around much longer than live, and is a more mature product. I'm not saying live is bad by comparison.... I just find myself more comfortable doing my sequencing in logic these days, and using live... well, live.

Logic can also edit samples (now directly in the same window, joy!). Live took away my "Edit" button!

Also, the new elastic audio and snap-to-transient features are quite compelling. While this isn't nearly as powerful as live's timestretching, it's a useful tool that will be much easier than rewiring live into logic for the same purpose.

Looks like I'm selling my copy of Digital Performer. Should be able to pay for the upgrade with it.

Oddly enough my hopeful feature here is the fact that Mainstage can play Logic instruments, but there's no mention of Mainstage being able to rewire, and to host Logic instruments in rewire slave mode. THAT would make it perfect!
Compose edit etc. in Logic, and play in Live, with Mainstage rewired to take advantage of the Logic plug ins.

Looks pretty appealing to me. I'm going to guess the XSKey was limiting market share for Logic - which was petty pricey. This is a good move for Apple.

I'm still not crazy about the look of Logic's interface. But the included material and plug-ins and capabilities are making this version one to watch.

Kinda makes the pricing structure of live, operator, sampler, eic seem a bit - outdated.

Hope Abeleton hasn't painted themselves into corner. It's either release a ProTools killer that Djs can get some mileage out or forget it.

This is exactly why I wish Ableton stuck with their $299 price tag.

Standing on a sales floor with a bunch of DAW software boxes on the wall behind you, it's going to be even more difficult to convince someone to spend that elusive $500 now.

A feature like Session View is still unique to Live, afaik. But that (plus maybe racks) seems to be about the only thing the Abes really have going for them here.

is there anything that would make logic's work flow much smoother. i know that others who have worked extensively on logic have no complaints re work flow, but i hated it, even after a couple years, and dumped logic for live, and it's a fairly standard complaint. anything that suggests logic will be easier to deal with? from what i've seen, doesn't look like it, but i expect apple would make it easier to deal with.

(btw, apple is never, ever going to take down MS, these apps are peanuts, all that really matters are the business folk who all use MS, apple is a niche product when it comes to computer (though doing fine again with laptops, mission critical for much of the entertainment industryt, etc.).)

Creating tracks looks MUCH easier now, watch the vids. No more diving into the environment to do this. The new sample editor looks better.

I'm really hoping it has context sensitive right click functions now too, searching the manual for that....

i'm finally considering buying logic. instead of spending money on operator and sampler i can buy logic for just about the same price and get way more out of it. anybody know how my macbook will do with it?

No academic upgrade from Logic Pro 7 to 8. Considering the features, $500 does seem like an upgrade price though.

If mainstage makes use with Live smoother, maybe I will give in.

I am pissed about not getting a discount though.
