i would like to personal thank apple for logic 8 ...
Re: i would like to personal thank apple for logic 8 ...
Who said it was a "big deal"? I sure didn't. I'm just saying that to sing the praises of another app and to say that Live isn't it's class, on this forum, is a bit douchey. Doesn't mean that people aren't entitled to do it.Astral Fridge Magnet wrote:I would say that 80 % or more of the posts on this forum have nothing to do with Ableton and there is loads of talk about other applications. My point is that this is a forum for Ableton Live users, and I don't see the purpose of you posting about another application...let alone posting that Live isn't in it's class.

Chill out. It's your tone in your first response that implied it was a big deal, otherwise why say it in the way you said it?
Re: i would like to personal thank apple for logic 8 ...
I have no idea why you're telling me to chill out....I'm feeling very relaxed. It wasn't the first post that I've seen, in my short time here, of people disparaging Live in favor of Logic. I really don't get the point of that on a forum for people who presumably like Live and want learn more about it, and I simply expressed my opinion. I come from a FL Studio background...I believe Live is a far superior app, but I'm not going on their forum telling them that i've found a better host and that their app isn't in Live's class.Astral Fridge Magnet wrote:Igor L wrote:Who said it was a "big deal"? But I guess that's just me. Thanks for reading my tone, though.

If we didn't like Live we wouldn't be here, but its not like religion you know, we are permitted 'other gods'Igor L wrote:

Many of us who read the forum get a lot of enjoyment from the OT posts. If it was just blah blah blah isn't ableton great it would be really boring.
If you don't like reading posts about other apps, the clue is often to be found in the title. Likewise posts about life, the universe and everything. Just don't read 'em.
And btw, don't respond to posts about viagra etc, it only encourages them
these are ALL mac users so we have to patient with their lack of common sense. they'll wear themselves out sooner or later and maybe even stfu and go learn to use their new toys.Igor L wrote:You inspired me...I just thanked Pepsi for Cherry Coke.beats me wrote:I just went over to the UPS site and thanked them for FedEx Kinkos.

I think competition is a healthy thing. Logic 8 is the best DAW I have used. Its ( now )
the one to beat. The sound quality is stunning and the interface , instruments and architecture have all been improved. Don't flame me for expressing my opinion - I am
sure Ableton will step up to the mark - live modular , free operator and sampler perhaps ? It can only be a good thing for the end-user. 2 cents.

igor, just get the facts straight, ok?Igor L wrote:Who said it was a "big deal"? I sure didn't. fact 1, ableton is my main/any daw i use.
fact 2, i started using ableton at verision 4 and currently using live 6.
fact 3, i have paid for a total of 2 upgrades @ $129 a piece.
fact 4, combining the orginal purchase with the two upgrade is total of $660.
fact 5, with the price and feature of logic 8, sampler and operator should be free.
fact 6, i have not spent one dime on logic 8 and not planning too.
fact 7, hopefully with the features and price point that logic 8 has maybe, just maybe ableton will see the writing on the wall and make live 7 just as competitive as far as features and price point.
if you go back and read my posts i am a ableton live lover but i also like to get a bang for my buck. is that ok with you? i thanked apple/logic for pointing out that the day of just selling a daw for a hefty price is over. features and price point has now been added to the game.
logic 8 has been a blessing for all daw users. now, companies have to rethink their game plan and think about feature/price point more.
ok?
Please don't kill me :p
Okay as coming from outside, i find this forum to be rather open. As somebody said before, if it was all about how great Live was, then it would be boring (and it would smell of idiotic moderators, wouldn't it?).
Competition is healthy, and in fact when i went to this forum and asked wether or not to choose Live over Sonar (well yeah i realize now its a stupid question hehe), i got a nice answer about why Live would fit my needs. I then took some more time testing out sonar, but still enjoyed Live more and found it to be the tool of my needs. Thats why i just ordered Live 6 boxed edition 10 mins ago
i know this was a useless post but what the heck

Studiologic, I think I owe you an apology. From your last post I think I may have misconstrued your original point. I think that what you meant is that Apple has released a competitive product at a competitive price, and that hopefully this competition will translate positively for Live and its users. So in that respect, yes, you are absolutely correct and I think all of us feel the same way.
Sorry for the mixup, no hard feelings I hope.

I don't think anyone can say with conviction what is and is not a blessing for DAW users. It seems silly.
Perhaps the best blessing could be: International ban on upgrades. Then, maybe, just maybe people would be more inclined to work with what was at hand. Of course the same people that have been to busy making tracks to discuss such matters would perhaps not notice, but I believe a bulk of the individuals that could no longer speak passionately about new upgrades could find something else more distracting.
It is just as possible logic could prohibit companies from going ahead and competing with a new DAW as it is that prices will be lowered. This leads into the whole monopolies are bad discussion. Another thing that could happen would be more and more varieties of free apps that rely on advertising, and more development on open source hosts. This could be very cool, but again is mere speculation.
I am willing to argue that ableton does us all a favor in not dropping prices. It encourages clarity between hobbyist and professional mentalities, and in some cases conviction. I keep logic around like microsoft office. When I need a cover letter to communicate what I do I open it up. I use logic mostly for mixing down.
Not that there isn't more than a handful of "missing" (after all it's all opinion) features I feel are seriously needed in live.
