I reality, We don't NEED Ableton at all. Or Apple, Or Reason, Or Protools... In reality, everything we make music with is a WANT.
Only the "chips" to keep us from starving is a NEED.
I have always said that Sampler is WAY too expensive, because I don't NEED it. I do want it, but not that badly. $50 total = yes. $150 = no. $200 = HELL no.
Operator = same math.
So, fuck it. I can easily do without. I'm sure that is what the Abs are saying about the $50 I would quickly fork over for Sampler. They don't NEED it.

if you do anything professional you already own kontakt2 and are saving your 150$ for your kontakt 3 upgrade.

i mean, do i get 30+ gigs of HQ samples with my purchase?
oh, wait, no i don't?
fuck you then.

I don't think it's a good precedent to yell at a company when they drop prices

Finally, an intelligent statement.

the price will definitely go back up after the sale - at least, it did will the almost identical operator sale they had around the time i got operator a couple of years ago.
people who've never used live ask me about it sometimes "so, what do you get? you get a synth and stuff right?". "err, no. you get a sampler..., but...". it's a bit odd. i think something has to give - there's no way Live can go on costing more than logic.

No shit. This horse has been dead for a LONG time (about as long as Sampler has been out.)

If it makes anyone feel any better, I paid $200 for sampler about 9 days ago.

I love sampler and use it all the time. I also own kontakt and I don't use that at all.
(I did however, also buy operator, and I'm less impressed with that).
