if the plugin HAS midilearn, i can assign ANY knob somehow and can automate this within Aleton??
Yes... You assign a knob or slider etc to any parameter and automate it, including in session view
as long as the vst has its own midi learn, you are good to go
Yes you're good to go BUT you can only then edit that automation in the arrange page in the clip itself, not in the track's automation lane. It works but it's an inconsistent workaround that's also less than intuitive for (probably) most users>there you are doing your first 128 a la manual then you get above that and have to begin working a different way. You also have to add extra dummy clips in gaps or have to consolidate clips you might not want to just to make a parameter change across a space with no clips. Sure it's not the end of the world but for a progressive, v6 coming up to 7 app that's aiming at being a complete DAW it's pretty weak.

So we've got somebody writing this and someone writing that someone at Ableton told him "maybe we'll fix it this time"... We are left to rumours which is not healthy. A statement from Ableton should come and clear all this fog. For many people
the 128 parameters limit is more important that many new bells and whistles.
well that was their statement 3 years ago, I asked for a refund (cause I haven't seen anywhere that this limit existed), they said "you can use the full extend of your's contry's laws" basically go f*ck yourself....

I am still holding a grudge... to me being able to automate any vst parameter is the basis of a vst host.

ok,
and to me some guy at ableton telephone (berlin) said that there might be a chance of more than 128 parameters will it make into the final live 7.
short after the start of live 7 beta.
