Wonder what the second CD adds and if it's worth buying

i think the second cd should be pretty cool too - did you ever see or hear the bootlegs of down is the new up or bangers and mash? the full band live versions were cool because either jonny (down is the new up) or thom (bangers and mash) would jump on a second drum kit and jam.. it looks like there's a couple tracks on the second disc that no one knows anything about either...

nope, never seen 'em live...I live is dallas, where none of the cool bands come thru...people think they're really being nu-wave-cool when they go see that "indie band Cold Player"

I dunno, it's hard to tell whether the second CD is even worth downloading for free. I mean, it's only the best band on the planet, so could be whatever (ooh, contentious!!!)

im exactly the opposite. I hold 'the Bends' as one of my favourite guitar albums of all time. And everything after that has been derivative and dull to me. Thom Yorke admitted to buying the whole Warp catalogue during the making of Kid A and amnesiac. so no wonder it sounds like a rock band trying to be Plaid and AFX Twin. It always makes me laugh when people say how original they are.

still Johnny Greenwood is one hell of an axman.

Adventurepanties...you sound like a moron.....they never sounded like a rockband trying to be AFX Twin or anyone else..they incorporated their inspiratons and influences into their own unique sound..which is what all great bands and artists have done..from the beginning of time..

Im entitled to my opinion, as are you. Im sorry that doesnt fit in with your vision of them as sonic innovators. If you think they are unique im not trying to burst your little bubble.

thing is -- I'd heard a lot of warp artists before Kid A came out and I was still blown away when I heard it. even if they were learning from the IDM of the time, the way they fused it with unique songwriting and dynamics of a rock band was unparalleled. Nobody would confuse "Everything in its right place" with a pre-2000 Warp track, even if it shared some of the techniques. And the fact that they were willing to listen to and grow from exposure to other genres only makes them more worthy of respect in my book. but, of course, nothing personal, we all have opinions...

I think that "In Rainbows" is a much mature sounding album for Radiohead than Kid A was...it uses the same techniques though but chooses a different path and that's what makes it brilliant. They've expanded on everything they've learned. For me "The Reckoner" is the best...it has a timeless feel. I think you could listen to that song 10 years from now and it wouldn't sound dated...almost like The Smiths with "The Queen Is Dead" album. Even the strings at the end of "The Reckoner" remind me of that album.

Im still a fan of the band, even if i dont like a lot of their later stuff. and i have a lot of respect for how they treat their fans. i think its ironic that this sort of "indie marketing" can only work for a band thats become successful through normal means though.

Well said. Yes, I know I sound insufferable sometimes. I even had a co-worker come in and close the door and tell me so this morning. The twit.

One thing I haven't seen in this thread is what people have paid for the download. I know there's nothing keeping one from lying about it, but in any case I will state that I ended up paying UKP3.50 for the download. This was more a factor of my budget than a measure of the brilliance of Radiohead.

What have other people paid for it, if anything? Do you think Radiohead will release information on how many people downloaded the album, and what they all paid? Might be interesting for other artists who are thinking of doing the same thing...

I would have actually paid a bit more if there were graphics that could have been included as well.

In any case on my second listening and it's definitely not something I can dismiss. Not a Radiohead fanboy, so I'm coming at it pretty objectively.

I downloaded the album last night for free. I intended on logging back on and paying $10 US tonight after getting paid and getting a chance to listen.

The songs are great.

The MP3s are... 160 kbps!!!

Umm.... shitty.

I'll gladly pay full price for the album, when I get 256-320kbps.

I'm going to be getting the album set for my wife. She's a huge radiohead fan. We have the entire discography I believe. So, I thought the boxed set would make a nice gift for her. Who knows, might be a collectors thing one day as well.

As for me, well, I like radiohead. Looking forward to checking out the new stuff.
