Do you guys have any idea why it would be doing this?? I'm not even running 8 tracks, and it's shooting my CPU up to 71% on 6 tracks using a MacBook with two gigs of RAM. I've always had problems getting this computer up to speed. It always seems slower than other MacBooks...

Go to your OSX System preferences and make sure your Energy Saver settings are set for "Better Performance". Also, what soundcard are you using, CoreAudio is a driver type, not a soundcard.

Where do I find that at...I looked in my system profiler and can't find it. I'm just using the basic internal card that came with the MacBook.

It might be called power settings in OSX 10.4, I forget.

You should have the app "System Preferences" in your Dock.

Sorry for the confusion. I was talking about the sound card. I took care of the energy preferences. That didn't do anything. I just don't know the official name of my basic internal sound card.

If the soundcard is the basic one that came with the MacBook, should that make a difference? And if that's not it, what would be doing that...

interestingly, i can only play 6 tracks without stutters using built in audio out.

@permeo: make sure you have a decent amount of empty hard drive space. regardless you should be getting bad results from this, as there are 24 reverbs in the test.

What further complicates this measurement is the Speedstep technology built into current processors (desktops and laptops alike). I had a hunch this might be an issue, so I checked with a hardware monitor (cpuz), and if the reading can be trusted, indeed the test inflicted such a light load on the CPU that it kept running at 2/3 speed (multiplier 6 instead of 9).

I think this reflects on the Live CPU meter scores in many of the submitted results on current processor models, this one included.
