I don't know why, but its strange. Oh well, I'll just go with it.
Thanks Guy for your support and input.
You don't know what you did to make it work?

I just bought the SL 25 and I have this very annoying problem.
The left top 8 rotary encoders does not control anything in live even though the user guide says they should be controlling plugin parameters.

I'm considering taking it back to the store but I know there's nothing better at that price. Still If I can't make it work with out too much work I'll take it back.

Hi Soarer.

Ohh Yeah. That's exactly the same problem I was having. It was shitting me to tears. Are the only controllers working for you in Automap, the top left 8 buttons? ( besides the Abe ones; the sliders & buttons on the right )
All I can say is to try to reinstall the software and make sure you try these settings in your Live midi port options-

Input-Remote SL :Port 1 Track On Remote On
Input-Remote SL :Port 2 Track On Remote On

Output-Remote SL :Port 1 Track On Sync On

And in the Control surfaces option, I have Input & Output both as Remote SL : Port 2. ( I had originally had these as port 1 & it worked for a little while )

These settings have given me stability, (except for the crackling when I do anything with the SL or mouse to change values) for a few days now.

All I'm waiting for is the Abes to fix the crackling.

Good luck my friend.

I have another question.

When I have various instruments/plugins on a channel, how do I then select each one individually to control? I seems like it's stuck on one of them at the moment.

(Like for example if I have a Pro-53 and a Sonalksis SV-315 Mk2 on a channel I can't work out how to select the Pro-53 to control with the SL and control stays with the compressor)

Sorry if I misunderstood the question, but just use your left/right arrow keys on your keyboard. Have you got your SL locked to the compressor?

I've not tried the arrows but I would have thought just clicking on an instrument/plugin would have worked and would have done the same thing as selecting which one with the arrow keys.

I'll have another look at it. I'm sure it wasn't locked. Thanks

Click on the device title bar to highlight it, then to swap, just use left/ right arrow keys.
Or better still, Click the SL's right buttons (under sliders) to 'arm track' and synth should be highlighted. Then </> for preference.
Should work.

I took the SL 25 back to the store this mornng. I could not make the auto mapping thing I wrote about work and I did try the things you mentioned Sibanger. I just thought it all would work more smoothly and effortlessly but it didn't.
So I'll wait and see if Namm brings some interesting new controllers or hope that price of the Lemur someday will go down :)
I'm not going to play live anytime soon so It's ok to wait.
I liked using the drumpads though so I may have a look at the Korg Padkontrol.
It seems the Lemur can do all of this, sigh... (no velocity sensitivity, I know).

Btw: also Pad #8 was less vel. sensitive as others have said.

Oh well Soarer.
At least Live won't be crackling anymore.
Hope you find a suitable controller.

I have a spike when only using 1 track with any vst incl operator.
It happens on an irregular time basis without touching any buttons or sliders or my mouse. As soon as I turn off the SL, it's all fine.

I'm on PC.

you can't get an SL working but you want a Lemur?

is it true that a Lemur increases your penis size?

Works for me. I do have a question...

What's the proper setup in Live preferences? What ports should be on/off for the SL? And what ports should be set for the control surface? It works for me with Port 1 but I'm not sure if other features are available for different ports.

Yes. I couldn't get the SL working because the SL is not working properly/as advertised (read my post).
I wanted to give it a chance and it didn't live up to my expectations so I may as well wait for something that does.

It just seems to me that the lemur is the perfect controller. It's a shame that it has to be so unreasonably expensive!

Usually you use Port 1/A for normal Midi/Keyboard input, Port 2/B for Control Surface and Port 3/C for the Automap Server application (wrapped VSTs). Some people have reported that they have to use Port 1/A for Control Surface, maybe their USB drivers switched the order of ports.

I am under impression that the Sl is out of Novation control, I mean the technology that is a bit untamed, they dont know what they did.
Tested yesterday the Compact, which by the way find way inferior to the regular SL-it is not all that compact, at the price of more scrolling through menues which is not what most people like. I hoped that 2 years after I got rid of my SL 25 things got better. While I missed some of the functionaliyt, I was instantly reminded why I sold it. It is really slow in updating screen, then random behaviour etc etc. Like when I had it- it works OK with Live but with Reason , if you compare to Korg 49 and mK is pathetic.
I would buy SL again only if some passionate developer from this forum makes something on the lines of what Phatconductor did for Triggerfinger or others doing for padKontrol. I wont mind paying extra for mod done by somebody who knows what he/we want, Mick G. form Novation is sensible fellow, perhaps if approached in right way, with some convincing evidence of skills someone could get to work on it with some assistance from Novation.

The SDK will be published soon, so from that point on the community can build its own "Native Mode" support for the SL. If only Ableton would publish their Contol Surface scripts as Phython source code so that we could customize them ourselves.

I was having you in mind, see pm for some details.
