Well, I don't think this rig I'm using currently will change with Live 4 (as it's taken me 18 years to build up) - I'll just be able to do more flexible sequencing and recording. Thank god for patchbays letting me dump everything into Live on the fly!
but paul, where is the speak and spell?
is live 4 going to be replacing that?

Yeah, that will be a great combination. I use Absynth standalone version in Live 3 via Soundflower, but I'd much rather use it as VSTi or AU in Live 4.
I still think Absynth and Live is all I need, even though I also have Reason, Reaktor Session and Arturia CS80V. Absynth is my favorite.

My current WISH LIST:
1) Live 4 (hopefully with built in delay compensation)
2) TC Powercore with Access Virus, V-Station, Sony Oxford
3) Atmosphere, Trilogy, Stylus, Bass Station, The Grand
4) An ever expanding library of loops and sounds
5) A handful of killer VST effects

For myself hardware (instruments especially) is an essential. There is nothing that inspires me as an old jazzbox or a piano...therfore my setup will be combo of HARDWARE:
- some older electric guitars
- a Fender Rhodes piano
- a cello(for bass) from time ot time
- old fender tube amps and lots of FX pedals
- records to sample from
- I'm looking for a smaller moog synth right now...that would be a nice addition!
and software/computer based recording/producing
- Ableton Live, of course - running on an ibook G4 12"
- a tascam us122 (cheap, works great, sounds OK too)
- a sure SM57 along with a MXL990 Mic
- reason (which i tend to use for synth sounds)
- oxygen 8

The only thing I really want at the moment is an acoustic piano to sample phrases from. It's just a fantastic sound to fuck with and filter and stuff... and there's nothing like playing a real piano either (digital pianos, however, are about as music as the box they come in) - except for a classical guitar, that is!

Hey all... I was intending to go Logic Express, until I saw the Live 4 announcement, and everything changed, I bought Live 3.
So, now I'll be using:
Live 4
Reason
Tera
Tassman
Albino
Absynth
Vanguard
Cameleon 5000
I've been using Tracktion to run my VSTis, but I think Live 4 will change that!

Albino is awesome! If Live 4 doesn't have delay compensation I will get Albino instead of the TC Powercore/Access Virus. Rob Papen is great and Albino is the next closest things to a Virus.

Well I for one am very pleased that Ableton decided to include midi outs - I have a whole bunch of stuff that desperately wants to get integrated with live4. The highlights are a YamahaA5000 sampler, a KurzweilK2000r and a Doepfer Schaltwerk - all of them essential for my live performance.
I can't wait to record a midi loop off the Schaltwerk into live triggering my synths and samplers, tweaking it, adding outboard fx while tracking into live as audio, and then dubbing with new midi takes!!! All in real-f***ing-time... [drool]---[/drool] and then being able to switch between midi loops just like the audio ones...oh man.
Logic and its crappy touchtracks can finally leave my laptop
Ironic, though, that new innovation in software can revitalize my hardware so well ! Sure, I'll still be using a bunch of vstis, but the added benefit of being able to resample those vstis on the fly and send them to outboard, like a space echo!, is amazing.
