in the end it's not the tool, but how you use it
there's djs that rock vinyl, and djs that sit there and watch the record spin
there's cats out there who rock out with live, and others who check email all night long.

I used to know some dj's who sucked on decks but now get booked because they now are in sync via Live..So Live has made some once shitty dj's who would train wreck into top booked dj's today..I dunno but for me it is a bit like dj's with training wheels.

Now, combining live and vinyl mixing would be funny

Fuck those vinyl junkies.
*puts on a record*
Ableton might mix simple music for you more or less automatically but that shit puts me to sleep anyways. There is no substitute for a good ear and putting in your time - although making it in any creative profession is completely distinct from actually being original and talented.
Abelton gives me the potential to put together mixes I would have previously had to spend months at with six turntables, in a few hours. I will always love vinyl. 'Nuf said.

@thefool : I must be hilarious then.
But seriously, why does combining the two strike you as odd?

I can slave the tempo in live to my mixer.
It's not that accurate though, you still need to know how to beatmatch for it to work

I'd love to see a show with a battle style gig between Tiesto and Enferno with cameras on the decks at all times projected on huge screens.
