There's a bunch of young skaters who gather just down the road from where I live on the outskirts of town. They gather there because of a unique facility: an old building which has a concrete 'step' which runs the whole 70-80 metre length of the building.

The big thing about this is that the 'step' has a steel cap on the edge which apparently makes it perfect for doing manouvres that skaters do on such things (I am not a skater so I take their word that it is 'special'! Anyway, these guys (and girls...I like it that there are several girls who hang out there too...a bit like surf culture really but more integrated) epitomise the friendly, open sort of "we are just having fun living our life" culture I have lived most of my life.

Now I am quite a bit older than this crew but because I walk by on my way to the shop nearly every day I have got to know them and even get invited to hang out and have a beer with them! (I like this casual, friendly 'street culture')

Why am I telling this little story? It is because recently I have been thinking of this Ableton community as being a lot like that community I just described : friendly, at times 'fiesty', but never 'angry' : accepting of others who accept them ... it is the same vibe here and while I don't post often, I love the friendly, direct, good natured banter even when disagreeing with others. It is like those skaters who are just living the way they feel!

nebulae...I don't know if your comments have anything to do with recent threads like the 'Winehouse' issue (where I got upset about what I felt were uninformed assumptions made by another person which touched a nerve from my own personal life experience..I wanted to apologise for getting angry about the subject)...but I think you are right to say what you have said here.

I love hanging out here ... and soon I am going to have time to get back to making music and will need advice and help coming to grips with the software approach to music production (I have Live 5 and never really got started with it...should I upgrade?...hehe)

So yeah...you make a valid point and I would love to get to know this crew better and get to know Live and use it like an instrument to play music!!! I can't afford the kind of gear I used to own anymore (Gibson guitars, Vox amps etc etc)

Well, that's all I have to say about that! Cheers all! :)
