Hey Anonymus!
... Dont forget that newer programes use more power. If your a pro and using lets say midi as your main sequensing then who cares what specs your computer has.
But if your limited then you can always render a pluging to a sample so you dont need to run it live. then you can have unlimited reverbs on a track

macs are slow, clunky, vastly overpriced and limited. they look nice but so do recent pc's. "everyone uses logic on the mac in pro studios" is the most tragic statement going. THATS BECAUSE THOSE PEOPLE HAVE NO CLUE. i can destroy any logic/pro tools mac user in 10 seconds with my vegas/acid/live/flstudio setup. the fact i can't be bothered to make any music these days is irrelevant, message boards are the new nightclubs anyway

No, I have to say PCs are clunky.
Clunky is it's own thing, seperate from slow.
Macs are possibly the only truely elegant computer.

I'd probably get a PC Laptop and a MBOX to use Reason and Live on w/ PT but I really do like Logic 6 (soon 2 b 7) so I'd keep the G4

By the way... what is PT on PC nowadays like? I tried to start using it in '00 (or something) but it left me crying.

i bought a pc for 1000.
it was hell to use
sold it two years later for 150.
i then bought a mac used for 450.
very easy to use
sold it two years later for 450.
i have since invested in 3 more macs
i work for musicians(i'm poor as fuck)
as well as perform and tour independently.
mac is worth every penny; it will yield a reasonable return on investment, is built high quality, and is easy to use for those of us who would rather be a musician than programmer.

claudek, perhaps some day you will also learn that it is not all about MHz. the 4 track tape recorder used for Seargent Pepper had possible even less CPU power than my iBook - still, even today a great album. Not to speak of Abbey Road, ELP Tarkus, PFM, etc.
Grow up and get serious. Until then love your PC.

I'm not like gamers that want 100fps they will never see or engineers that want 192khz they will never hear, I really get the too slow messages when trying to do stuff.
The reverb takes ~25% of my CPU just launching, so I thought it would be a good start. Now, like I said I'm thinking part of problem is the Live port (especially the reverb) that has issues.
I tested Reason itself, and it was 2x the speed, which is more in line with what you'd expect from 2x the clock.
Not to forget that extra cpu over what I need means I can start thinking of my computer as a real time low latencey fx processor at the same time.
::i'm sorry, not pickin on you in particular... at all... but these threads :about which is better are giving me the shizizinits... really dude, when are you gonna use 28 reverbs on a track??!??
i know... just a test... rar rar... but really...
All Ableton has to do is Altivec-enable the effects. They've optimized the audioengine, which is a good thing, but failed to altivec-enable the effects. We clamored for a faster version of live on mac, but forget to exactly specify what we wanted to be faster, and that's the effects, like reverb. Personally, I would love to be able to run a reverb on every track if I wanted to.
But as it is, I can't.
