yessir, since version 4

and some soundforge, scala, a bit of maxmsp (which im learning), a tiny bit of reaper and my new friend : spear

I also decided to only concentrate on LIVE any more.

I love the production flow:

It makes me feel more like a musician with instruments
than an audio-engeneer.

Thats why!

For the past few years (since Live 5) I've been using it alone. I do use an external app for sample tweaking when needed but all of my music writing, arranging, experimenting, mixing and mastering is in Live.

The entire Blip Fool EP (link in my sig) was done in Live 6. Well, the guitarist used Logic but once I got his tracks they were put into and effected in Live. In fact, it was great because I was able to chop up the full tracks he sent me and work with bits and pieces separately. I used Ozone to master and and working on another EP using the same mechanism using Live 7.

Wouldn't have it any other way...

I normally write all my tune within ableton live. Once i get everything down to mix stage, i normally export the whole session and then do all my mixing in Logic.

Don't worry Nate - although some people prefer to mix in other DAWS, the actual mix quality in Live is as good as anything else. Some people also like certain fx in other daws such as Space Designer in Logic or Roomworks in Cubase, but you can get a 3rd party VST such as Voxengo's Pristine Space or equivalent mac plugin and run it in Live.

Where other DAWS score points is *like Logic and Cubase* you can have your arrangement on one monitor and your mixing window on the second monitor etc natively. In Live, you can drag the Session view mixer so it occupies 2 screen but this is not as flexible.

Live is getting better with each release. Dual monitor support or a new mixer view would be a nice addition. Cubase 4 or SX2/3 have up to 3 resizeable mixer windows too, which is nice when mixing a lot of tracks. Having said this, rendering all and then importing into another DAW is time consuming and not guaranteed to get a better end result, so I probably mix about 85% of my stuff in Live.

i agree with you man. i mix 100% of my stuff in live. i'm not going to crossover completely. live is the best software for what i want/need. logic just has so many bells and whistles i can't help but try it out.

so has anybody found a good reason why live doesn't support dual monitor support? that's the one thing that i was really hoping was going to be in version 7.

yep, that's me. I ditched Cubase completely some years ago, probably about 6? or something like that. the only other sequencers i use are in hardware.

Same here!

In fact I tried Cubase Remix first (anyone remember that - a cheap stripped down version of Live) which led me onto Live, which I've used ever since. I don't like to think how much dosh I've given to Ableton over the years for upgrades (every version except 4) but bless 'em, they deserve it. Mind you I've just bought Logic and am learning it, love the comping feature, keyboard shortcuts and the instruments but its a very different beast to Live, I can't see how it would ever be a replacement.

Yep, Live only for me.
Being a PC guy, I haven't been able to suss out Logic.
I rely too much on midi & vsts. It sometimes pushes Live to the wall.
I run a fairly powerful PC, but like the flexibility to leave the instruments/vsts
still in live, so I don't convert to audio as much as I should. (if that makes sense)
If I was on Mac, I'd be checking it out. From what I understand, it handles midi better,
plus other more DAWish features.
Hell, maybe I should have a look at the Reaper.

plus today will be my second day of tracking my (psyche rock, well, sort of i guess) band. This is the first time out for me doing a multi track session on live rather than just my electronic stuff. I gotta say, i'm really happy so far.
