+1 best info i have seen on the net so far.

also Moldover has torn apart controllers and built a custom from the parts.
very well done.
he uses a tweaked Reaktor enemble to help contol it.

I'm busy trying to make a decent DJ controller with the Behringer BCD2000.

I'd like more midi feedback, but I'll get it working ok-ish with L7.

A lot of the time goes into making it reasonably fool proof. The session view (navigation) and single active clip (parameters) are not really what traditional DJing is about. Before you know it you're launching the wrong clip on track one because you where PFL-ing and editing clip properties of track two on a different scene. 8O

Coming up with a intuitive workflow concept takes a lot of thought...

In my case, I don't like to prepare all sets/songs in advance so the controller has to be more traditional than other Live DJ's would be needing I guess. E.g. I don't want to make/prepare a copy of a clip just to do looping. One clip / song please.

The upside is I can get BCD2000's for close to nothing. :)

indeed, in order to make my live set (the soft part) I spent ...2 years
Now I'm fine with this part..

The most intuitive things for me now: forget the mouse & screen by making the clip matrix triggering..

a lot of time, again.. but I make music at the same time (fortunately)

for those interested in Wiring board as the brain of a controller, I began that:

It's looks very interesting building a specialized controller. I've been trying to follow this from the links that someone here put to midibox.org. I tried to register, but I don't know that it worked or not. I see this message on the registration screen.

News: Sorry for the connection issues.
Looks like the system was compromised somewhere. i blocked certain processes and i am updating software and will buy more ram. Again i am sorry about this. I will do my best to fix it. Regards, Twin-X

and I've received no email about registration?

Anyway if somebody could answer. I would like to build a simple matrix of buttons. Like 8X8 (maybe 8x16 or shift - 8x8 with labled buttons would be great) each one dedicated to a program change. Midi channel 1 Program change 1, 2, 3, ..... etc. in as small of an area as possible. I have a couple of Peavey PC1600's with 16 faders and 16 buttons and would like to switch their presets in a small simple footprint next to my keyboard.

Currently I'm using a Trigger Finger to change them it's a little large and clunky for the job.

It's a pretty simple interface idea compared to the impressive work you guys are doing. I'm really impressed.
Hopefully my simple design I could build easily since I'm a beginner and it would take me a long time to develop the chops you guys have.

Can someone help me out and point me in the right direction?

Currently each preset to each of the 2 PC1600's I have gives me 32 channels of Volumes, next preset 32 channels of Pans, etc. Send A (headphones), Send B (PA System), Send C (reamp Bass amplifier), Send D (reamp Marshall amplifier), Send E (reamp Vox Amplifer), Send F (reamp Fender amplifier), Send G (Headphone Reverb), Send H (Mix Reverb). Program changes also map to PC1600 Scenes which send the levels settings of any presets existing in the PC1600. I use this into Ableton Live 7 of course.

Each of the PC1600's has a dual pedal input. I use Piano keyboard sustain type pedals mapped to trigger buttons. Mark and Stop; Launch; Next Marker; Record.

It would be nice to have more pedals like that so I could easily step through more commands controlling Ableton hands free while I keep my hands ready on the guitar etc. when tracking, recording, etc.

Again impressive some of the designs, you've linked here. Gets me thinking of all kinds of possiblities. I'm at the beginning though. My simple matrix would help me immensely.

Thanks for the topic.

Does anyone know if there is something wrong with registration at the midibox.org forum? I'm trying to register and I can get no response back in email.

I'd love to have a clip launcher controller, but I would have to pay someone to make it, or wait for one to become mass produced... Really how hard is it for someone to come out with a 2 set controller that would work for everyone...

Controller 1 = 6 columns x 1 row of stopers x 5 rows of clips
Controller 2 = 6 columns x 5 rows of clips

You can start out with a base controller if 6 tracks and 5 clips per track are good enough for you... Then expand with an extra main controller if you need more tracks, or expand with a secondary clip extension controller if you need that.

Universal for all clip launchers :P
