I have no complaints with my Edirol FA-66: neat, compact and affordable (and has built-in drivers for Mac). It delivers pristine audio with no crackles.

Of course, in this area it depends how many channels you're looking for and your computer specs (firewire v. usb etc)

Tell me about your exxperiences with the mk2... I am thinking about buying a mk3....

I use the tried and true FireWire 1814(home) & 410(road). Both are rock solid stable for me (XP & OS X), sound great, and have very good in-driver routing. Some cards might sound a tad better (s/n ratio), but for the price/performance/portability factors, I'm quite happy with the M-Audio duo.

the new fast track ultra would do it for ya. it has 4 mic pre's / di's that would fit your mic and 2 guitars.

This is alittle late but I have to vote for the Presonus Firebox or FireStudio(Just because its rack mountable). I also have the StudioLive and FireStudio Setups and all 3 are great products and works well, Anything Presonus is hands-down great! If you are getting pops, clicks, and anything else odd....You might want to check out your computer. Alot of interfaces have gotten bad reps just because the end user's pc or mac had issues.

2in/4out...OK it's not firewire but the NI Audio Kontrol 1 has give me nothing but love from day 1. Currently using Fireface 400 here, had a FF800 and an Apogee Ensemble too and the AK1 def. represented sound, feature and stability-wise. Super-robust too, chuck it in your bag and go.

To the OP, you're running 4 drives, are they all internal? Or are you daisy chaining? Even if not, G5 firewire all runs on the SAME bus, so connecting a drive via the front firewire port cause dropouts in sound to an audio device connected to rear ports. If you have a spare PCI slot pick up a Lacie etc firewire card (~$30 on ebay) and try connecting the Motu to that. I know this because it's exactly what happened to me. You'll quite possibly find that fixes you up and gets you off the shopping-go-round.

Well since you're using an Apple, you seriously owe it to yourself to investigate Apogee.
I own a Firepod and a Duet, and the difference in audio quality is severe.
If you cannot swing 495.00 for the Duet then keep saving, it's worth it.
They also make the UNO. A single channel affair with a built in mic.
I'm not a big fan of the breakout cables( Duet), I think for the price they could have been better made, but no problems so far.

Actually, a friend of mine pulled a M-Audio Profire 2626 apart just to see whats in it, and it has converters from AKM that have more than 112 dB of dynamic range. This is only 10 dB less than my 3500 dollar 192 I/0, and 8-10 dB better than typical interface converters. They are the same specs as the RME interfaces, and I suspect they are actually identical chips. At any rate, 8 preamps based on the THAT 1510 chip, and converters of that quality are actually a great deal at 700, IMHO.

FYi, the Presonus Firestudio and the StudioLive both has 114db dynamic range and has produced crystal clear results for me.

Motu is well known for great Mac drivers.
I had two Motu interfaces (an 896 and an ultralite) and had no problems with those.
