WISH/TO DO/MUST BE LIST LIVE 8 (NOT 9, 10, 11...42)
I mainly DJ with Live, so these are performance orientated recommendations. They are all fairly straightforward to include, but would improve it's usability no end and imho are long overdue.
Coloured Markers/Annotations on waveforms (save in the .als file). Even better if it's possible to jump to these via MIDI
Ability to have more than one loop/start point, for a particular track -> or, at least, give the option to move the start marker WITHOUT affecting playback
Metadata support. In particular, it would be great to be able to read key/bpm/genre information. Hovering to get this info would be ok, but the ability to incorporate it into clip names would be best. Linking it to the colouring of clips, would also be really useful.
Ability to set the default size of a loop or modify the loop size to specific values (1,4,8,16). I currently hack this with MIDIStroke and Ikey, but it really should be a feature of Live.
There are workarounds for some of these issues, but it significantly increases the amount of preparation that has to go into a performance which should, ultimately, be spontaneous. I really need a workflow where I only ever have to prep a particular track once (possibly whilst I'm playing it out for the first time) and then I can reuse that information every time I pull it into Live.
Fingers crossed,
J

Here's my list of features that would be very nice. I think an LFO Device like the one in ReNoise would be my number one wish.
I'm making a lot of music with the current version though, so I'm not in a hurry
- LFO Device
- Group Tracks
- Global Transpose
- Absolute Automation in Session View
- CTRL+Arrow=Transpose
- MP3 Export
- Automation Curves
- Right-Click-Menu-Plugin-Inserting
- Favourites list with both Ableton and 3rd party plugins
- Individual Swing Amounts for each track
- Previous/Next Preset Buttons instead of the lame system we have now
- Colouring of Tracks and Scenes
- Undo History in Browser
- Surround Support
- Individual CPU Meter for each Track
- Reason-Style MIDI Drawing
- Add Locators when changing scene during recording from session to arrangement
- instant-meepy-floop-tarnce-crompersorr-ch00n-knob.

bump bump all!
Great post.. images are worth a thousand posts!
Bump specially to absolute/relative automation which could be the solution to full clip automations in Session view.
God! Looking back I just found thatI requested this 4 years ago...
Okay, if this is going to be implemented the system should be smart enough to allow tweeking too in a live situation. Let's say you can choose Absolute mode on clip automation and draw envelopes. When playing back you must be able to tweak the automated parameter and that would convert temporarily the mode to relative and the 'arrangement's red button would be enabled to indicate that there's a change so when it's pressed the modified parameters go back to absolute (if they were meant to). Hope it's clear.
That makes me think about another good feature: a Red button (or an option) for every separate track/fx/vsti so we can return to the normal state of any device and not to all of them at once!
cheers

This is by no means critisizm. Live is still by far leaps and bounds ahead of other sequencing sofware as far as the full package goes.
For me
These five would drastically effect how my music sounds because they would allow me to do things that I am too lazy to do with current work arounds
1) Paramter modulators or even better allow midi out from plugins to control and automate other plugins.
2) Create group from track selection
3) Record automation to clips
4) Clips for sends
5) Sends/returns on racks (to complement the Drum rack way)
Then there are a bunch of suggestions I've heard that would make working faster or are so fantastic I doubt they will happen
-Melodyne type audio editing
-Any (>128) parameter automation solution
-Curves for envelopes
-Make evelopes non-linear from absolute 0% to 100% with GUI value as center.
-Crossfade overlapping material in the arrangement
-Commands for inverting midi data/envelopes, slicing notes, generating variations, etc.
-Convolution device(s) (like Sintefex/Reverb/Liquid mix/Amps)
-Favorites, most used, or recently used menu of devices/plugins
-Start typing in browser to go to item spelled that way (like windows/Mac explorers)
-F*cking Max modular device in Live!!
-OSC in/out in prefrences (could be covered by Max integration?)
-Vocoder. Wait. No one needs a vocoder
-Update for better integration of Impulse w/ rack & samplers
-Granular sampler (although if Max is included...)
-More filter models (although if Max is included...)

I'd like more DAW functions... I'd like to use Live as an electronic music creation instrument (and I do) but also as a full featured DAW for mixing and production.
And I can't, considering the lame automation system (dammit, it's so hard to program a feature for drawing precise envelopes like triangles, parabolic ascends/descends et cetera?), automation points do not snap to grid (ridicolous) and it's impossibile to define the precise value of an automation point. Ok, it's very simple, but it's completely dull.
More important, there isn't a multitaking system that crossfades the good takes, and this thing limits Live to loop based production: the arrange view in almost useless. Ok, the session view is absolutely amazing, but it's not so hard to implement some serious DAW features that not force me to use another DAW software (and more euros out of my pocket) as master rewire and live as slave.
Anyway, I agree with almost everything in this thread, especially with the request of absolute atomation in clip envelopes: IMHO this would render the session view features more powerful

Step sequencer for drum rack. Yes, you can draw the notes in via the MIDI piano roll editor, but it simply is not as convenient as the interface in Guru or ReDrum.
More groove humanization functions, ability to manually set note timing offsets (slightly behind or ahead of the beat, etc.), or, even better, randomized note offsets to give the beat a more organic feel.
If they want to just hold Christmas early, I would say theat doing something along the lines of Stylus RMX's "Chaos" feature would be awesome (Chaos allows you to set a certain percentage of randomization in the drum pattern, the timing of the pattern, dynamics, pitch, etc.).
Hell, D16 has the randomization thing in their step sequencers, I know Ableton can pull it off.

Tempo automation in session view please! Dummy clips that control tempo is complicated to program.
Basically what would be very handy is to be able to import midi files in session view and keep the original tempo automation. That way I could easily import all the midi files I have into 1 live set and be ready to perform.
Thanks

I am working on old sets, and it would be very useful, altough I am aware it could be hard to code, because of some functions (stretch for example).

Hi, i have some whishes concerning Sampler...:
-Like the capability to convert Akai format Cdr's i'd like the same for Emulator formats and others and not only to convert the whole Cd but selected folders and patches.
-Batch conversion for EXS and Kontakt format instruments. At the moment it's only possible to drag and drop one instrument after the other. And that takes a lot of time.
-Better translation of EXS instruments, filter and envelope settings are not translated correctly.
-Some people ask for more modulation destinations
-Timestretching/warping capabilities for Sampler samples
-Automatic chromatic (or other) keygrouping (like EXS24)
Please add more ideas. Sampler is one cool instrument, but it could be a real swiss knife.

+1 Yes !!!
Also an undo list (where you can jump and see all undo's possible at one time without a pull down menu)
and a MIDI event list for all clips !!!!
