Ironically, vst's integrate into Live better than Operator does!

That is what stops me from using Operator much (I own it)...

Yep. Ironic, isn't it?

It's pretty telling that they added support for common midi messages to Sampler. Hopefully that means Operator will be getting a similar boost in the next version.

Hey m.Lo, what do you mean here?

You can assign all parameters of Operator to a USB or MIDI controller. Especially those with Instant Mapping scripts, which make the use of any Ableton instrument or effect really inspiring..

Or did I misunderstand you?

Yeah, but you can't save those with a patch, so you can't create sounds with any kind of controller assignments set up. If you use a rack, you can of course use automapping, but this rules out the stuff you almost always want, like mod wheel, aftertouch etc.

Also, as of Live 7, you can't record automation directly into session view clips so you're stuck with Operator.

Operator integrates better because it is an internal instrument and does not use the extra plugin buffer required for 3rd party vsts/aus. So it plays at lower latency.

We all know about not being able to record into session view, this is something which might be addressed in upcoming releases.

Sampler and Kontakt are programs with a different ambition, both of them have their strengths and weaknesses, and nobody was asking for an opinion on Sampler anyway !

Logic only has one FM synth, EFM1 which is definately NOT better than Operator. Logic's internal synths are good for free but don't compare to paid software, excepting Sculpture maybe.

Read the text. (saving to instrument...) :)

It might be addressed... in the meanwhile, I can record cc data in clips with Zebra or other vst and no can do with Operator. It is a big lack for Abletons own synth to be less functional than 3rd party vst's.
