thanks man, I appreciate the words...but it's hard hard work...and we take parenting really seriously. But that doesn't at all mean we have to compromise our dreams and passions (like music!); just that we gotto plan and schedule better (a lot better!).

I also think the idea of adopting is great, and you guys can always become parents after the vasectomy, so it's not like that door is entirely closed. There are plenty of children who need good parents. And let me say again how great I think you two would be as parents. There are so many shitty parents in the world that I get sad when people who would be great parents don't have kids, while the shitty ones turn into baby producing factories and populate the world with dysfunctional shitbags who propagate the cycle in perpetuity...

true, true, I know i was. I recently got re-married a couple of weeks ago and became a step-dad of a pretty cool little 8yr old boy. I never knew I would be able to handle it. My wife and I are both 35, and wondering if we want to have one together. Procreation is a natural part of life. I like having my free time, but I am the last male in our family. its tough... being a step parent i still get half the month off when he's at his dad's. that's when i get to spend the most time on music.
another big thought, if my child is anything like me, he's in for a tough life, and will def make life harder for me.
as for the snip, that scares me like eye surgery; something could go wrong.
any men that have had this, does a nut feel different after the surgery?

I'm 42 no children. Decided it with my wife some years ago.
Personally I think that any unnecessary surgery could bring us closer to get some discomfort or worse. You can still avoid having children and avoid surgery as well. Sure the price to pay could be the usage of Condoms (Pill for your wife can expose her to a cancer risk) but avoiding surgery is still a better thing IMHO. As we grow older we'll probably need surgery when some organ/system fails and that won't be unnecessary.
I think the human body should avoid any surgery when possible.
I had TUIL surgery in 2001 and the doctor told me I would have recovered in 20 days. It took me almost 18 months

. Someday when it's cold or when I bath in cold waters the pain remembers me of that surgery.
So the lesson I learned is that despite statistics you cannot get to know in advance how your body will react to surgery because bodies aren't predictable machines or cars and do not follow statistics so weight the risk in one hand and benefits in another. You do not have a disease like I had. Get to know the worst scenario and decide, because statistics always leave out the unpredictable ones. Not doing it now means that should you one day decide to revert your decision you will do it without getting surgery again.

Extensive experience and careful screening have served me well. After 25 years of frequent debauchery, I'm clean baby. I tend to "Sport Fuck" with other's that share my alternative lifestyle. Condoms are always used with groups.

I'm referring to a significant other, (you know one you boink on a regular basis).

Let's not turn this into a morality thing. It's so 80's.

To a degree, I wish social issues were as easy as they were in the 80's! (Just say no? Safe sex, etc.) in retrospect, as fucked up as it seemed at the time it's nothing compared to what we have to deal with now...

Nebulae, last I checked you can't tell a girl with an STD just by looking at her. I dated a girl for two years who was seriously amazing; physically out of this world, fit, came from a well-to-do family, turned me on to some amazing music, etc. Drumroll....... she had herpes. I had to wear a condom for three years while we dated. No big deal really but you have it in the back of your mind, even while you are hitting it, that's for sure.

While 6th grade advice about not banging the town tramp without a jimmy-hat is appreciated there are hundreds of thousands of professionals with herpes, which never goes away, living in cities throughout the world. You gotta be careful vasectemy or not.

Just to chime in. My wife and I are expecting twin girls in two months. I am absolutely scared out of my wits, but at the same time I can echo Neb's feelings. I look at the sonograms, and I am absolutely on cloud nine. I can't wait to enjoy sitting with them in the studio watching them create stuff that far surpasses my own little music. Or if that isn't for them, then whatever they are into, I will be into.

I had toyed with the idea of not having kids for awhile; feelings were similar to many here. Messed up world, overpopulation (I believe in ZPG, so these are probably our first and last (TWINS!!)). But if you look at it that way, why not bring someone into the world and bring them up to be the best person they and you could possibly hope for. They have a shot at making the world a better place. It probably comes down to one word:

HOPE. and LOVE. and Selflessness. I personally can't wait though I know parenting is going to be the hardest thing that I have ever done (even above my dissertation which is killing me).
